I'd be happy enough to write this tournament off now, to be honest. Spurs will do the same as last year, probably. It's a bit of a messy draw.

    I tend to agree.

Getting out of this group will require some degree of focus. I always think it's a worthy competition. Punt the League and FA Cups this year instead if necessary.

    But...but...but...TWO CUP FINALS

That approach still makes no real sense to me. By all means use a few of the fringe players, but playing totally weakened teams makes no sense as they will get crucified probably which does neither the club nor the players any good. I expect probably stronger teams in the home games as per the last round, but it shouldn't be all reserves/fringe players.

Yeah you're right I'm sure it will be a mix of players just not maybe having any of our key players involved. After what happened to Kenny I'm sure Rodgers will be aware he has one priority this season.

Jesus, it's hard to believe we finished 8th last season without the "burden" of Europa.

I hope Newcastle do well in this, to be honest.

    bye bye Charlie.

it's not your fault you needed to be better than you actually were.

if you start delivering good set pieces again though, you will be dead to me.

It's about an extra £7m to us for getting into the group stages. Also I think our mainly reserve team would be decent

    Reina(Jones is just to ****)
    Flanagan-Carragher-Coates/wisdom-Robinson
    Shelvey-Henderson-Lucas/Allen
    Sterling/Borini-Morgan-Assiadi

    lol, golden.

Why is that golden? Does you think he is talking about the league itself rather than the league cup, which is what he is obviously talking about?

Why? That's a pretty tough group by Europa League standards...

It could have been worse tbh.

For all the finincal power that Anzi have, they're stiil only playing EL football, the away leg will be tough alright but I'm not too bothered about playing them.
Traditionally we do well against Italian teams.
The artificial pitch in Switzerland could be a banana skin, but I'd hope we would be better prepared than Spurs were.

Supposedly the Anzhi game will be in Moscow

The league cup that he held in such high regard in May, such high regard that Kenny should have kept his job for winning the competition.

The FA CUP is actually far better to get further in in terms of money i think. Was reading the prize money for each. For us to get the same as what we got during the FA cup run in far less matches we would have to get to the Europa semi final minimum but it would be about 6 more games to do it than the FA CUP.

Possibly prize money but with TV money I'd say Europa League easily comes out on top. edit: Actually even the prize money for FA cup doesn't come close to EL.

Adam had some bad games when played as part of a middle two without Lucas beside him. He had his failings - he was limited athletically and made poor decisions.

But he was decent enough as an option all told. Great left peg and the willingness to try and beat a man; play the big pass or take the big shot. I never got the hate.

Should be a good signing for them. Whelan and Walters will do a lot of the digging in grunt work around him and leave him free to be more what he was at Blackpool. There ability to get width and bodies in the box should give him targets to hit for his range of passing too.

I don't like Liverpool entering any competition they are not taking seriously. I know the noises will be made about taking everything seriously, but I doubt that if we only played under 21's in every competition we would still get top 4. We still have a large enough squad to cope imo, and that should mean it is effectively 14 first team regs, 14 second string, with a crossover of 4 or 5 players so choosing most of the second string for the cups isn't where I want us to be.

We got ANZI. If only we still had Carroll, we could have played him and convinced them to pay 45m for him. I'm sure we can shift a few lads onto them come January ;)

It would suit Carroll over there. In terms of the weather, local language and city, it's probably more like Newcastle then London

Just as long as "Wae'aye mon" doesn't mean something offensive.

Lloyd, like me, holds all competitions in decent regard. Personally if I had to choose I'd like Liverpool to win the Europa league over the FA Cup over the league cup, but I wouldn't disregard any of them. Not everything is black and white you know. Lloyd saying that winning the LC was important for the club doesn't mean that he wouldn't prefer to prioritise the El ahead of it if one or more competitions have to be chosen to not try to win.

And they've lost in Europe before playing Anzhi as well as the league cup. Elm (who has left for CSKA Moscow) and Maher aside, they are an average side. Scoreline is a bit of a shock if anything though there might be circumstances I'm unaware of, but not the result.

So long Charlie....I will always remember you for the wonderful goal against Blackburn, shame it was in our net.

Adam was a totally fine player to have in the squad & I never got the abuse he took off people here. He had a good first half of the season & a poor second half when he was forced to be without Lucas & do a role he was unable to do.

We better be bringing in a couple of players before the end of the day.

Rodgers going on about the squad being so small will look at bit stupid if we don't. Particularly having loaned Carroll & Spearing out & sold Adam in the last 12 hours (especially taking into account Lucas is out for 3 months).
