PSV Insurance - How much???

    Hi all

    I'm just curious how much this costs and is there a difference between taxi, hackney and limo insurances.

    Nobody here can tell you that. Its based on location,age etc etc.

    Ring every company and broker to get the best price..

    Yeah thanks

    I did that. I was curious to see if others had a similar quote.

    It's actually for my dad who retired recently. He's driving my mother up the wall so I suggested it as something to do rather than earn a living from as it seems to be one of the most competitive jobs (in Dublin anyway) at the moment.

    She just wants him out of the house for a few hours every day :D

    I cannot see the poor man making a living if he starts from scratch like getting a psv licence, car etc etc and the price of fuel.

    Its a pretty thankless job too tbh..

    Just out of idol intrest what sort of quotes did you get when you rang around?

    And the reason its so competitive and almost impossible to earn a living at it is because people put a Taxi on the road just to get out of the house.. Its a job to earn money, not a social club.

    Hey, even if he's not making any money, he might find it interesting.

    Saying that the reson taxi drivers don't make any money is because people do it to fill the time, and that it shouln't be treated as a social club is like say that this forum puts garages out of business pecause people give very helpful advice.

    If she wants him out of the house for a few hours a day, why don't you volunteer him to do Meals on Wheels?

    If he wants to taxi and not too interested in making lots of money, he can do patient runs to St. Lukes etc. It's not as grim as you may initially think.

    I agree. Tough job. I think he just wants to cover his costs and get out of the house for a few hours each day. He wouldn't be doing nights or anything like that....
