Unleaded petrol in older cars

Just a thought - I seem to remember info about 'valve seat damage' from Unleaded , but there was an additive could be used to help. Anyone use/ know of this additive ?

Stuff called Redex, I use it on some of mine, but not the Japanese stuff.

wow, you are late in the day!

I use castrol valvemaster plus BUT I've not heard of scores of cars being affected so probably you can continue without it , just be prepared to get your head modified as and when VSR sets in. If you drive short distances at slow speeds, it probably never will

I'm late ? or Carch with his Redex ? I remember pumping gas in the early days, there was a Redex squirter beside the pumps if anyone wanted a squirt with their petrol :eek:

As most of my 'classics' were American, they all used unleaded before it was normal here.

Yeah, you're late as in about 20 years.:p This is 2012, so we're grumbling about ethanol in petrol instead

I'm another one that used Castrol Valvemaster Plus.

However, I bit the bullet and got the head converted to unleaded and I had no VSR in the head.

As an aside, you are a fraction late with this - It's ethanol now and the effect it can have on fuel lines/seals/jets now is the thing.....

This Millers additive apparently does everything, ethenol ,lead and increases octane.
