Mediasat (Italy) claiming that we've offered Carroll to Milan on loan with a buy-out option.

As if we'd get burned by them like that again...

Ugh. We need a player who will score against the weaker teams! How is this not obvious.
The point is he won't get those unchallenged chances in the Premier League! Even with lower half Premier League teams, generally, they tend to be quite good defensively (I'm thinking the likes of Stoke, Sunderland, Villa, etc.). Premier League defenders are generally strong, pretty quick and good in the air, that kind of style isn't conducive to a player like Huntelaar.

You are vastly overrating the Premier League while underrating both Huntelaar and the entire Bundesliga imo.

Also, only just realised Naldo signed for Wolfsburg for just over 4m. Pretty good business that for a decent CB. The value really is in the European market.

    Dig up! Dig up!

At this point I'm convinced you've been watching a different player, and a different league. You seem to believe that the EPL is all mighty and all powerful yet completely disregard his achievements, albeit minor, in 2 of Europe's biggest leagues and the Bundesliga also.

Scott Sinclair to Man City has hit a snag, would LFC fans be tempted if Rodgers went for his former wide player? Would be cheaper than Walcott or Sturridge anyway

I just searched 'huntelaar' on Twitter and the most popular first tweets are all related to us, guess its just not a boards.ie pipedream, everyone would love it. Oh to dream...

I am not underrating the Bundesliga at all, it's fantastic league. But it is a statistical fact that there are more goals in a game than in the Premier League. When you have a team like Schalke who not only scored goals by the hat-full but conceded them too, it's not surprising that Huntelaar has such a great record considering he was the point man for the season.

Sinclair isn't good enough for Liverpool imho.

Dyer would be good enough as backup but ye are well stocked there. Likewise Taylor, Rangel and Britton as backup but in those areas you already have the players.

After the Allen debacle I doubt you'd get anybody else from Swansea tbh. And anyway, in the case of all the aforementioned players, while good, they aren't special like Allen is. As such, there is far more value to be had on the continent where prices won't be overinflated. An English player like Britton is still rare but there are plenty of players who could do his job for less out there if you were looking to buy in that position.

Winning headers unchallenged is as much a feature of good movement and defenders being pulled out of position than just bad defenders. With an attack containing Suarez, Stevie, Borini, Sterling, Sahin - you think they wouldn't create chances that a good finisher would put away?

We'd deserve to be burnt if we offered such a deal.

Allen must be a real talent for our captan to give an interview just about how much he is impressed with Joe.

Didn't I read in Gerrards book that in the first few moments of a new arrivals training session he can tell if a player will make it or not

The £17 million fee for Huntelaar would get us Jesus Navas by all accounts. Navas could play wide right with Suarez and Borini switching between the left wing and striker as they see fit. With Sahin in the mix playing killer balls, I think we would really tick.

Navas can barely leave his house, he isn't coming all the across to Liverpool.

He has a pathological level of homesickness to the point where in large parts of his career he wouldn't travel abroad with the Spanish team.

I think he treated it to a certain extent but i'd be surprised if he ever left Sevilla and astonished if he left Spain.

Had a bout of curiosity earlier so went about checking up on some of the good deals in Europe this year just to highlight to myself why buying from the Premier League is often shooting yourself in the foot financially.
I've probably left a good few out, either through forgetfulness or ignorance so feel free to add.

    Prices in Euro.

Marvin Martin – 10m. An absolute bargain for this player, I dread to think of his price if he was English tbh.

Altintop – 3.5m for a player who can play a number of different positions quite well. A bit on the old side a 29 but the price and his versatility are in his favour.

Luciano Narsingh – 4.1m. 21, soon to be 22, year old attacking midfielder who assisted around 20 goals last season in the dutch league and signed for PSV. Has 3 full caps for Holland and was in the provisional squad for the Euros. By the end of next season he could be worth treble what they paid. Haven't seen him play at all really myself though. Yoootooobe and such.

Valero - 7m. With Villarreal relegated he was always going to leave. His time at West Brom would give me some uncertainty but he certainly was a stand out player for them last season.

Gargano – Loan. Inter Milan got a good deal here, not sure if there’s an option to buy?

Giovinco – 11m. For a player like him 11m is a good deal imo. Once again, if he was English his price would be double.

Juve also did good business with the likes of Caceres and Isla. Then went and messed it all up by getting Lucio :p

    Gago – 3.5m. Enough said.

Joao Pereira – 3.6m. Excellent deal for Valencia. Portugal’s first choice right back now I think.

In Germany then, deals such as Adler and Weise for free, both good goalkeepers, Alder especially. Weise can have his brain farts I suppose :D

Elia- 5.5m. Can be hit or miss but 5.5m is a good deal, and even if he failed there would be clubs willing to front at least that up again next year.

Naldo, I already mentioned, was signed for 4m or so which is a great deal.

When you compare that to the prices touted for some of the English players. Fletcher was 12m. Jarvis 9m. And I’m sure that’s Pounds rather than Euro.

Adam Johnson was another 12m or so buy and we really could go on and on. Just look at this morning’s reports valuing Sturridge at over 20m. Absolutely baffling.

As much as it kills me, the best business I’ve seen in the PL so far is probably United getting Kagawa for 13m.

I seriously doubt Rodgers would pay anything over £10m for Sturridge.

Thankfully, I do too. That post was more for my own curiosity than anything else, and tbh, wasn't really Liverpool related.

It's probably more relevant to our transfer policy last summer than is now, as fortunately this summer we seem to be looking into Europe and getting good value.

Its no surprise the fee that would be most questioned by fans here is the 15m spent on Joe Allen, even if he will be a fantastic asset for the club.

If Huntelaar is available we should sign him. Probably need him more than the likes of Dempsey and Walcott

Won't happen, I suppose. Just talking to a Sch**** fan, if Huntelaar leaves the club, he wants to play Championsleague football.

Actually me, as a Borussia Dortmund supporter, talking to one of 'Them'? Not bad, not bad :D

The bit where he said something like "reds you've won the three points, yellows.... You've lost your bonus", was cringe city, like something Noel Edmonds would say on deal or no deal.

Dunno about you, but when I'm in work (and it is their job), if my bonus was threatened it would make me try harder. Money is the only language those guys understand. (assuming Rodgers was referring to their appearance bonus)

Their win bonus, rather. It was a throw-away comment anyway. People are picking up in everything...

Theo Walcott has rejected Arsenal's latest contract offer, @OliverKayTimes reports. #LFC definitely interested so could make a move this wk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,461 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Walcott would nearly be worth it just to sink Arsenal's chances of 4th.

Anyone for Diego Milito? Only a stopgap as he's 33 but has a really good scoring record and seems to be the kind of consistent finisher we need. Obviously we wouldn't get much more than a season outta him but id imagine he'd cost next to nothing. Would be an option if were shopping in the bargain basement come Friday..

Dempsey, Walcott and a striker would be a decent end to the window in fairness!

I used to think he was terrible but Walcott has grown on me. That's mainly down to how he's improved over the years. If Walcott was an Arsenal underage playey and broke through this year to score 9 goals and 11 assists in 35 appearances at the age of 22 then everyone would be creaming their pants about him. The fact he was a big money buy so long ago and hasn't reached the great heights yet people expected that he must be crap. Most Arsenal fans seem to rate him highly as well.
