    I'd prefer not to tbh.

Unless we were getting £20m & bringing in a top class player. Huntelaar or someone of that ilk. If we loan Carroll or sell for a ridiculous cut price deal & sign someone like Dempsey only. I'll be unhappy & feel a club like ours should have the resources & finances to have both.

However, it's the managers call, if he wants to roll that dice, it's on him.

I don't think Carroll was ever to fund Dempsey. We talked to Fulham way back, probably the same time we first spoke to CFC about Sturridge, then we signed Borini. Then Bellamy and Maxi left, and we needed more strikers. So Dempsey stayed on the agenda. But if Carroll is to leave, we need yet another...

    Out:
    Adam £5 million
    Spearing £3 million
    Downing £8 million
    Cole: £0

    In:
    Dempsey £9 million
    Affelay Loan

    Squad:

    GK: Reina, Jones
DF: Johnson, Agger, Skrtl, Enrique, Coates, Kelly, Carragher, Flanagan, Robinson
MF: Allen, Lucas, Gerrard, Sahin, Shelvey
AT: Suarez, Borini, Dempsey, Affelay, Assiati, Sterling, Carroll

If we could ship out Carroll for a decent wedge and bring in a short-term lethal finisher like Huntelaar or Berbatov, or maybe even splash the cash on a Llorente (almost certain to move on), Chicarito (seemingly behind Welbeck in the pecking order), Dzecko (out of favour), we'd have done excellent business.

Not a hope in hell we'd get Llorente, Dzecko or Berba and chicarito off United. You're dreaming really.

On a much lighter note, apparently that interaction between Lucas (sitting on the bench) and the copper from Sunday's game was because Lucas's wife sent the copper to ask if he was okay (according to yahoo sport.)

It's not very newsworthy but at the time I was curious as to what was going on.

Jesus, the lurkers will be creaming themselves to comment on this first.:D

There is no chance of either of the United players signing and personally I wouldn't want either Berbatov is finished, and Suarez gets caught offside too much for my liking, add Hernandez to that and we will end up with and Arsenal-esque goal scoring issues. Llorente would be great but in all likelihood unrealistic, Huntelaar would be good and has a proven partnership with Suarez but is really only a short term solution. Dzeko would be ideal with me but not when any deal would most likely involve Agger going the other way.

Jordan Rhodes name seems to be popping up today. Might be rubbish as no one reliable has reported anything yet. A few people on twitter claimed to have seen him at the match on Sunday. Haven't seem much of him but his goal scoring record is very impressive and he seems highly thought of from what I've read.

Affelay would be a fantastic signing, even if it's just on loan. An out-and-out striker then would make it an incredible summer of signings. If we can move on Adam, Spearing & Cole that might fund the deals, if not, then move Downing on as well. If we sell Carroll we need 2 strikers IMO.

I'm not sure I would like to see us bother with the Dempsey signing at this stage, if Affelay was here on loan we have plenty of "Behind the main striker" type players - Gerrard, Suarez, Borini, Downing, Sterling, Assaidi, Shelvey, even Henderson & Suso. To me, we have only one out-and-out striker, and that is Carroll. We need another top class one & I would prefer to see all of our remaining transfer funds being spent on that instead of 9m on Dempsey. Obviously the like of Huntelaar would be ideal, but even if we bought Jordan Rhodes if we are very strapped for cash I would feel more confident that someone will finish off chances & half chances that are being created.

A short-term solution is fine with me -- we can bring in a top class striker when we get back in the top four. Berbatov or Huntelaar could make the difference this season, or next.

Llorente is unrealistic, but possible. He seems to have burnt his bridges at Bilbao, and Juve aside, clubs haven't been queuing up for him.

Chicarito and Dzecko -- both would command sizeable fees and aren't 100% proven, but both would have long-term value and are certainly an upgrade on Carroll.

Would be very interesting to see how he does at the highest level. Scored for Scotland the other day too.

I am not in a hurry to move Downing unless it's for proper money. He's flexible enough to play a few positions, he's not much of a risk if we needed him for a few games, and he's a good passer of the ball. He was v poor against West Brom, but scored a great goal against Gomel. Not the first on my hit list.

Ferguson will 100% not sell any player to us!

He is an excellent finisher, have seen a lot of his goals and he definitely fits the bill of being that clinical striker we're after. However I'm not sure of his all round play or whether he would be able to make the step up to banging in the goals vs premier league defences. For £5m-£7m I'd take a punt though.

I call shenanigans on that. No picture of him, no suggestion from any proper sources that we were interested - it you be BEYOND tapping-up if we'd invited him to match day to have a chat...

I don't see them selling that cheap - maybe with a player on loan the other way...Morgan?

    Lol
Im out on customers calls in Kerry and West Cork today and tomorrow so away from my desktop, so on comes the sport on the radio and it's fully taken over with stories of Downing and Adam out and Jay on his way to Bolton and Sturridge in for £18mil.

Tell me first half is true but the second half is not ?

Source? Would prefer to throw that sort of money at a proven goalscorer like Huntelaar. Don't rate Walcott that highly at all.

I just want it over. Surprises on the last day of the trasnfer windows have not been good for us.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I say that some of the tabloids had Sturridge for £19m splashed on them when I was in the shop earlier. Think (hope) that it is just paper rubbish.

£19m for the likes of Sturridge would be a bloody joke.

I think ESPN said Chelsea want £25 million for Sturridge

Walcott would be a much better buy than Sturridge.
You could see Walcott replacing the goals and assists that we got from Kuyt at his best, and unlike Sturridge I think he could play across the front 3 without moaning about it.
I know he would drive me crazy, but he’s still young enough to improve

Sturridge is in the last year of his contract which is a reported £40-45K a week, theres no way the transfer would be £18-25 Million, realistically if your buying out his final year and giving the club a sweetner it would be > £10 Million I reckon.
