    More "Cool Fords" anyone....then i'll stop for a while....promise ;).......

At the Square in Tallaght yesterday.

Don't stop! I love them old Fords but the reg is a disgrace. How the fcuk could a body like the SIMI argue for something like this is beyond me. Surely someone in there is a car nut?? Or just looking out for the "new car" industry and don't give a rats about classics. Ruins the car for anyone with an interest in classics.

Yeh, what's the story with this reg of 100000+, saw a 77 MZ with 77D 120074 or something on it ??

The official line on this is that there was a 'change of computers' by Shannon or somewhere and it was 'not compatible' with the previous system so they raised the registration numbers to a new start point because the minions couldn't be arsed going through each county to find the last registered car of each year.
This also happened in 1992 alongside the introduction of the ZV plates but it was not as noticeable. This is the reason that many cars in each county are numbered over the #500 mark with some over #800.

It's not such an issue on modern cars but on older stuff it's plain silly looking. No option now for a brutal looking plate with the 5 digit ZVs now only available too.

It just makes the illegal Taxbook trade more lucrative, and with the VRT rise to €200 the price of a Taxbook has risen accordingly.

2 weeks ago, a man rang me from Laois, looking for a taxbook for a Merc, must be over 30 years old, as he had a 1982 U.K. Merc. He had been told that it would cost him E790, to clear it by some !Expert! in a pub. He said he would pay E350 for the taxbook. I explained that he couild have his car seized if he was caught, but as his car will be 30 years old next month, to wait until then, keep it off the road, and he will be able to clear it for E200. I have got several calls over the last few months looking for taxbooks, so there is ringing going on. I do not believe that Customs are hassling people with U.K. Reg. Cars at shows, if they were, there would be far fewer to be seen at the shows and rallys.

Give it time, if people carry on like this they will soon notice.. and others as well which could have an awful knock on effect in the scene... :(

All it takes is for someone from some dept. to come on here and have a read... then we are all under the eyes as such. So the few who do it will ruin it for the rest of us.. who dont..

    Panda 4x4 - http://www.autogush.com/imgs/1650-Fiat-Panda-4x4-53.html
Defo one for the 'Lotto win' collection

Did have an original 127 hatch back in the day - 5.5x13 PR Reilly steel rims, 128 rear box ( gave it a rasp), 4 branch from some Fiat crowd in Malvern, and a twin choke off an 850 sport.

€790 sounds about right, with regard to Revenue checking on shows it's happened already.
Some exhibitors and show organisers have been spoken to by Revenue officials, they have also attended shows undercover. The next time you see cars being photographed at a show it might not be by a classic car fan.

Very true happened to me years back at Terenure over brown Rolls. They thought they had got a big one and landed up very disappointed when they made calls and found out it was only 50 euro at the time. They gave me till Monday to pay with 10% fine.. I was unlucky as the car was only in country a week!! They were in plain cloths and were talking about the car and asked me was it for sale and how much etc and sat into the car and then showed the badges!! If the car was in the country longer they would have taken it..
    Its just not worth it..

    Well OKI ,
thats a definite story from the horses mouth, rather than the usual " a man told me that a man told him" stories.
    the 10 % fine , i.e. 5 euro was a bit of a sting for you i would imagine.

by the way I have not had time to comment on a few of your excellent photographs, but |I noticed an OKI doppleganger in there!

    regards Rugbyman

It’s a rare and desirable Decapotable (convertible) version.

Here’s one with the top down:

I'm sure they don't come up for sale too often but anyone any idea what one in very good condition would typically fetch ?

Absolutely gorgeous car - just planning for the inevitable Lotto win !

It better be a good Lotto win, not just a 5+bonus (from Wikipedia):
Citroën DS values have been rising – a 1973 DS 23 Injection Electronique 'Decapotable' (Chapron Convertible) sold for EUR €176,250 (USD $209,738) at Christie's Retromobile in February 2006, and a similar car sold by Bonhams in February 2009 brought EUR €343,497 (USD $440,436). On 18 September 2009 a 1966 DS21 Decapotable Usine was sold by Bonhams for a hammer price of UK £131,300. Bonhams sold another DS21 Decapotable (1973) on 23 January 2010 for EUR €189,000

Another rare machine - the Tatra 613
    http://hooniverse.com/2012/08/27/classic-profile-1978-tatra-613/#more-105962
There was one behind the Burlington Hotel, along with a Fiat 500 estate ( the man was a divil for punishment :P ) . Must take a trip around to see if they're still there.

There are 6 for sale here, starting at €54K and going up to €169K.

The price depends on if they are originally coach built by Henri Chapron (very expensive) or by another coachbuilder (somewhat cheaper), though prices have rocketed in the past 4-5 years. I saw one for sale in Heilbronn in Germany for €34,000 about 5 years ago, it was sold in Germany Easter 2011 for €85000 with no major work done on it since.

Gorgeous car as is the coupe version of them.

i didn't know of the coupe variant.. there was a four door convertible version i believe, commisionned for Royal/Presidential cavalcades - in fact i think someone posted links here recently. I'd say the coupe version looked great - i'm off to google images :)

edit: hmm, not overly convinced by the lines of the 2 door coupe version...i'll take the decapotable please

Does anyone know what kind of car this is ? Obviously American, I reckon it's from the early 50s, possibly Ford ? Thanks

I reckon it's a late 50's Ford Fairlane Town sedan not sure of the exact year could be around '59.
