Liverpool did pay €5m loan fee and will cost them €10m altogether for the year
Way too much for a loan player

    From the article linked above:
It is another blow to Wenger, who missed out on signing Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin, who opted for a season-long loan at Liverpool instead.

I'm sick of this anti-Arsenal doom and gloom campaign that the tabloids have been running with. He didn't opt for a move to Liverpool, he would have preferred Arsenal. We pulled out because Madrid were looking for outrageous money for a loan deal.

seriously you think if we wanted him enough we wouldn't have gotten him?

same with Sahin, the cost outweighed the benefit. still disappointed that we didnt get him but i wouldn't be happy paying 10 million to madrid for the priviledge of developing their player for year :D

A 5m loan fee is just too much (for us) to pay for Sahin. Considering he would have pretty much been in the team until Wilshere gets back and back up after that. Realistically he wouldn't have been ahead of Cazorla or Arteta. A bit disappointing but this deal wasn't make or break.

BTW, some of you may recognise me, posted a few times in the thread months ago before being banned for player abuse :D
Something about Bale being a diving so and so :pac:

To make it even more stupid that should all be in pounds as far as i know.

Darren ‏@DarrenArsenal1 I know many can't count in Liverpool so here is a maths lesson. £5m loan fee and £6m in wages = £11m. Source. Hunter,Guillem,AS,BBC,Guardian

Really is mad money to just loan a player.

he was probably of more value to liverpool than he was to us. Just hope that the money is invested in another player. Any chance that we are the un-named club that has bought M'Vila ?

The £5m hasn't been mentioned in the BBC or Guardian articles.

Never checked either articles, they just seem to be the numbers being thrown about by most sources on twitter.

These write ups might give a better view of the Sahin deal as a whole.

Wenger has elaborated more on the Sahin deal. Basically said he's similar to Wilshere.

    Wenger on Sahin Deal

This pretty much sums it up
“If we wanted to sign Sahin, we would have done it.”

Impossible to know. Only thing is I haven't heard a non-Arsenal fan give the £5m quote expect Balluage and his reliability is pretty poor. Not to mention most of the stories I've read from Arsenal bloggers etc don't make much sense.

We may never know. It's the kind of thing where Arsenal fans want to inflate the reported loan prices while the Liverpool fans report the lowest prices they have seen.
From the off though i do believe that Mourinho wanted Sahin to go to Liverpool due to his connections with Brendan Rodgers from his Chelsea days.

Does this guy even want to be at Liverpool? It seems his heart was set on Arsenal from Arsene's comments and hes only where he is for the lack of a better option.

I'm pretty sure Arsenal were the unamed british club that were in for him.

Its either us or Sp*rs. With M'Vila wanting champions league football though i hope it is us.

I think it's more to do with him getting a lot more football with us although I'm sure the connection has helped. But I think if Wilshire was out for the season then Sahin would probably be at Arsenal now. I also dont think Arsenal want to pay £80k or so for someone who won't be a guaranteed starter when Wilshire is back and then have go back to Real in the summer.

I thought Spurs were one of the two named clubs from what I read.

How many teams were in for him? Zenit, Sp*rs and Team X. Can't remember if there were anymore.
Know Zenit have been ruled out due to racial abuse he has apparently gotten already off fans. Pretty sad really.

Great finish by RVP in fairness but I don't think he will win anything with them :)
