No sound when playing movie on Ps3

My brother wanted to watch a movie on his ps3 so i put the film on the usb for him, The movie plays fine but there is no sound, on the computer the sound is perfect but on the ps3 there is no sound. Any ideas why this would be?

in properties it says the file is Mpeg-4 .mp4 Video file not avi,

just get a different version of the film, i.e. not the exact same version you got first time

Try Freemake, an easy, free converter. It even has a set of conversion profiles specifically for the PS3. Very quick too.

As well as converting the file type, I also use it to hard code subtitles into files and to join files together. Really handy.
