So Buttner at RB? Not the situation you want throw a newbie into.

LB, you mean? Raf or Val at RB.

Couldn't go any worse than Evra's debut!

Evans, Rio etc not available per Fergie...just on SSN there.

He said that Phil Jones resumed training yesterday which is positive.

not surprised at fergie saying that we wont be signing anymore and dont really care. we still have the core of the team that nearly won the league last year and have added two class players in RVP and Kagawa. add to that three players with potential with powell, henriquez and buttner. and de gea starting the season in the form he ended last year which is a massive plus. vidic back and looking solid as ever just need luck and getting jones, smalling, evans and rio back and staying fit for the season along with hopefully cleverley staying fit and though i cant see it anderson also staying fit. with all that i think we are more than a match for city especially if the the young lads listen to what fergie said(welbecks comments about it) to them on the coach home from sunderland and take it as a driving force to motivate them to not let that happen again then the squad is not as bad as people are making it out to be. we were poor in europe last year i know but the group stages of the CL were at a time where de gea's confidence was shot and we had a whole host of injuries and young players getting their first experience in europe. in the europa league(its not right) but i got the feeling that some of the players looked at it as beneath them and didnt put in real effort. i know we lost our first game but going back over the 20 years of the PL i can remember quite a few times us dropping points in the first 3 games and it was against everton who have taken points off us every season for the last 4 or 5 years anyway.

Just seeing that SAF said Buttner will probably be on the bench.

It will be interesting to see Saturday's team considering how much he has said about it. Either it will be a mad looking defence or he is a complete spoofer.

I hope Wootton gets the nod and he is just making sure nobody expects it. He did well in pre season, had plenty of football last season and is actually a centre half.

Agree 100%...just stick Wooton in there.

When you've a specialist centre half and you stick a midfielder in there ahead of him, it's a tad odd.

Shades of Rafael getting the nod ahead of Pogba.

Unless we signed a superstar midfielder we should leave well alone. Weve a good few squad or project types in there now, one more won't solve much.

Squad is absolutely class now IMO.

    First team:

    ...............DDG...............
    Raf......Rio....Vida....Pat
    .......Carrick....Scholes....
    Nani........Roo......Kagawa
    ................RVP.................

    ..............Lindegaard..........
    Jones....Evans...Smalling.....Butters
    ...............Clev.....Ando............
    Val.............Welbeck.........Young
    ....................Chico..................

    And no room for

    Giggs
    Powell
    Berba
    Macheda
    Bebe
    Henriquez
    Petrucci
    Lingaard
    Tunni

Unrayal. The reserve tesm ciuld beat most sides outside the top 6

would swap nani and tony from the two teams and maybe scholes and cleverley. scholes is a legend and can still play but his legs wont carry him to being first choice every week. i agree though unless tomorrow iniesta, xavi or someone of that level came available by the 31st i think we should just stick to what we have got and start bedding in Powell,Petrucci,Lingaard and Tunni and see if they can force themselves into the squad if they can great no need to go out next summer if they dont then next summer bring in someone.

Can't believe they are not adding a midfielder, I hope I'm wrong but it will be the undoing of them. The squad is so strong and with addition of one really good Center Midfielder they'd have the best bunch of players in the league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,789 ✭✭✭nicklauski

Definitely wouldn't mind seeing Wooton thrown into the mix for Saturday.

At home, beside Vidic, after a good preseason, couldn't ask for better for him.

Pushing Carrick back into midfield, beside Cleverley. Fairly solid base with that.

    It is quite shocking alright.

One signing and we would have the perfect squad.

We have phenomenal strength and depth in every position except for cm.

The mad thing is, come next summer with the strength and age of that squad, they are only gonna need to buy one player probably.

The reason I think it could be the right time to play Wootton is because the rest of the team would be set up with experienced players. He would have the normal Keeper and three first choice defenders with him, Carrick on front of defence, rest of the team is all fit so it would mean only one change from the best available team.

For me Carrick in midfield helping protect a young centre half is better than Carrick at the back and nobody doing Carricks job in midfield.

I still see the Pogba one a little differantly as it came on a day with a fecked up team all over the pitch. I didn't think it was ideal for such a young player. Wootton though would be in a settled team and he has decent experience of first team football, even if it is at championship level.

but SAF proved in the past he doesn't mind messing about and making lots of changes so I would be surprised to see him play ahead of a mad defence with Raf at left back, val on the right, evra in the middle.

Bit OT but does anyone else hate to see Valencia line up at RB? I know he gets forward alot but imo he is a world class RM and delivers far better crosses then Nani in that position, and seeing him at RB limits that somewat.
Play the player in his correct position

wouldnt use the term world class(yet!) cause i think that should be reserved for players like messi and ronaldo. but he is our most effective right winger and i agree he is not as effective at RB as he has to be concerned with not leaving the team too open at the back

Lets just assume for arguments sake that this time next Summer Scholes and Giggs have both called it a day. That leaves us with

Carrick(Solid and will nearly always feature)
Cleverley(I expect him to really kick on this season and cement his place)
Fletcher(nobody knows how this story ends up)
Anderson (will he ever really make the step up consistently?)
Powell(unless he makes a Jones like impact this year it is still too early)
Kagawa (Who knows what role Fergie sees for him long term.)

Then we have the lads coming up from the youth team. I would be very surprised to see any of them featuring much next year.

I'd say Fergie will be forced to buy 2 midfielders next Summer.

He also said there is every chance robin van Persie will start tomorrow
Fergie: we definitely won't be buying anyone else

Bitterly disappointing, if he is telling the truth as the current team/squad simply isn't good enough. Unbalanced and lacking in midfield. FFS.

Lads when did he say this?

I agree Valencia should be played RM and not RB especially when there is a ready made RB on the bench (Rafael). I would have Valencia in ahead of Nani every time.

Sahin is rumoured to favour a move to Arsenal because he wants Champions League football. But Arsenal have supposedly cooled their interest 'cause they're only interested if there's an option to buy. On that basis, it looks like he'll end up at Liverpool almost by default.

I'm very surprised that we're not interested. Maybe the fact that there's no definite permanent deal at the end of it doesn't appeal to Fergie? The thing is though, surely the thing to do us use the season loan to make the player want to join you? I wouldn't be surprised if Sahin is indoctrinated with all that "touch the sign"/"you'll never walk alone" b..locks come next May and ends up signing for Liverpool permanently. If some bird you'd like to have as your Mrs is up for a one off performance but doesn't fancy a relationship, you still take her down and make sure you bring your A Game so she wants to stick around...

Im getting a strong feeling fergie is gone next year and guardiola is lined up for the job.
The van persie thing being fergies last hurrah at doing a champions league this year.
    Pep having a year break.
The huge amount of interest in young footballing players.
If i was an itk id tweet this .

I've said it before, Rafael & Valencia are a great combination on the right hand side for United. Great understanding between the two of them.
Hopefully we'll get to see it on Saturday.
Team I would go with is

    DDG
    Raf-Wooton-Vida---Evra

    Carrick
    ---Cleverley
    Val
    Kag
    Nani
    Rooney

I know SAF said RVP could start, but I can see him sticking with Rooney (even after Mondays performance)
He's a known advocate of letting players play themselves back into form, so can see Nani and Rooney keeping their place.

I think if we win the league or the Champions League at Wembley, Fergie will walk at the end of this season. Better to exit stage left with the crowd crying out for more than at a low ebb.

I would not like to see Guardiola take over. I'd question his actual coaching and managerial ability as in my view Barca's success is more about a uniquely gifted group of players and less about him. No doubt I'll be castigated for that view.

Id prefer Jose myself. And I think yhe club would too.

I reckon the Bebe thing was basicalky a sweetener to get well in with Joses agent. He doesnt even seem happy at Madrid. Only biding his time till Utd comes up IMO.

The thing about Jose is he's not one to stick around, he'll be gone within a couple of seasons, I no its been mentioned before but what would United fans think of Moyes taking over? I think he's a quality manager and would really be suited to United.

dont think if we just won the league but maybe if we won the CL. Guardiola would be great but if not him i would like to give david moyes the job. he has done so good with everton with very little money. knows how to spot a bargan great player, knows when to let a player go and also knows how to bring young players through very similar to the man himself.

Gah! Yes, got my hands mixed up. And anything that stops Evra blazing a shot towards the corner flag is a good thing.

That is a concern with Jose but i get thr impression from interviews he regrets leaving England and would be prepared yo stay long term at abig club there.

Moyes has no European experience and when he has had money to spend has done so very poorly. I rate him highly but not United highly.

I'd be worried about Moyes' ability to manage world class players.

Nowadays, the players have so much power that they're likely to tell an ex player who wasn't very good to "f..k off" (show us your medals etc). That's totally wrong obviously but I suspect that it might be a problem. Yes Mourinho was not a good player but he'd won the Champions League before he joined Chelsea and Fergie and Wenger come from a different era (plus Fergie was a better player than he makes out).

I could genuinely see a world class player turning around to Moyes and asking him "what the f..k have you ever won or achieved?" as soon as the going got in any way tough.
