Aside from all the political spin about enforcing border security, I doubt that the Republicans or Democrats are truly serious about it. If but for illegal immigration (see earlier demographics), America would reach zero population growth, which would also mean zero growth in the number of domestic consumers. I'm uncertain what implications this would have for their version of capitalism, which has had domestic population growth since the origin of their nation.
