    Im tying to get to (Portlaoise) Stradbally on Monday 27th August as Im an advanced volunteer working for Electric Picnic festival, as far as I can see the only train that I can get that will get me anywhere near the 2pm time of my shift is the 9.40 pm train which gets into Portlaoise for 1.35 pm. This costs 40 euro for the single fare, yet any trains before and after are only 20.59 euros, why is there such a price difference? I would get an earlier one (9.05 am) but I have to collect a welfare payment from the post office in Salthill at 9am leaving only 5 minutes to get to Ceannt Station.

    9:40 train is change Limerick, change Limerick Junction

    Other trains are change Portarlington

    Different routing == different fare

    According to the NTA journey planner the X51 bus leaves Galway 1000 arriving Limerick 1120 with a quick change to the 12 bus (dep 1130) gets to Portlaoise 1315. Don't know what on-time performance is like for the X51 though. buseireann.ie quotes at midweek return 29.45, but does not offer the 1000-1120-1130-1315 connection on their journey planner presumably because the connection time is short.

    Thanks for the info, what number is the Limerick - Portlaoise bus (stop number 12)?

    Edit: Just realised it is just called number 12, cheers, might be a risk with the time in between but might just consider this one.
