Anyone know if Setanta are showing the match Saturday?

    It is.

Herrera doesn't do the prima donna rolling on the ground thing,he could do a job for us in midfield. He got up & played on as if nothing happened after this 'tackle'.

Jeez that's some tackle. To think how some players roll around on the ground after a tap (e.g. Nani).

Cannot wait until Saturday, better be the first three points of the season coming United's way :)

I keep banging on about it, and I'll keep doing it while people keep wanting us to sign a CM

    Kevin Strootman....

Continuing on his fine form from last year. Scored in PSV's 5-0 win over the weekend. Caught about 30 minutes of the game and he was orchestrating **** like it was nobodies business. And was bursting up the play as well.

He wasn't picked for the first game as PSV went with a more " experienced" midfield, and he was put in to start on the weekend after they had lost the previous match 3-2. Can see him being a regular this season for them.

£12m.... keep getting the feeling this is a major opportunity missed if we pass him up. Someone at some point is going to grab this fella.

he was offside, but no need to embellish it.

at least make the line straight across the pitch.

    :p

I'd imagine it's to offset the camra angle.

A line parallel to the six yard box might be a better bet in that case.

The outside line would still have to run parallel to both the goal line and the 18 yard line with the line cutting through the point at which the furthest back defender is at.

Was reading a couple of articles on FFP in the EPL,David Gill is one of the main advocates of the plan & is supported by Liverpool.Even Chelsea are for it.
There's a couple of clubs on the fence but they seem likely to support the plans.

Guess which is the only club against it? Yup- Manchester City. They say they want to conduct their business as they see fit despite having an operating loss of £195 million.

He would be a good signing for us - he was linked to us earlier in the summer but interest seems to have died down unfortunately.

He would be an excellent long-term prospect alright. Given he's only 22 he could do a job for many years to come. This is him causing riot last year.

Clubs with big income are going to support FFP as it improves their own chances of staying at the top end of the league. No surprise United favour the rules.

Clubs with a smaller income and modest expectations (Fulham for example as they have changed their tune) will support it now as it reduces the chances of clubs lower than them spending big and possibly pushing them into relegation trouble.

modest income teams spending big will always reject the idea of FFP so it makes sense that city are not onside with the other clubs.

a balance should exist to prevent another Portsmouth but i'm not sure how you achieve it without favouring the big (income) sides. Maybe that imbalance needs to exist to safeguard smaller (income) clubs?

There is whole thread on tickets here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=896

They will also probably be on general sale on the united website.

We don't actually need any sort of line drawn for us though, we can clearly see he's offside without any assistance.

That run at 2:06 and the volley at 3:20 were superb. The only midfielder we have who can carry the ball like that is Anderson but he isn't reliable enough. The volley was special. If Van Persie did that you'd have guys creaming themselves and rightly so.

Hopefully Buttners and Van Persie have a word with him and tell him there is an Dutch revolution going on at the club and to get himself over as quick as he can.

I didn't know that Michael Essien once played for United (in the Under 17s) until I read it recently. My understanding is that we didn't pick him up at the time because of potential work permit issues.

Rumour also has it that United not trying to sign him when Chelsea did (for £24m) made Keano go berserk as he'd repeatedly identified Essien as his replacement and discussed it with Fergie. To be fair though, it would have been tough (but not imposssible) to win that particular bidding war!

Essien's still only 29 now. He is the exact type of player that we're lacking. It's a crying shame that we didn't sign him back in 2005. I'd like to think that United are investing heavily in scouting in Africa as it's seems to be a hotbed for producing that type of strong box to box defensive midfield player (although for every Essien there are probably 20 Djemba Djembas).

    @DM-ICE

    Excellent post.

FFP is great for us but the biggest problem with it is that it effectively copperfastens the status quo. Whether that's fair or not is a tricky one.

Buttner was so happy at moving to United he was at a street party to celebrate the move in his home town.Pity a few other players weren't like this.

Bit of a random thought but with all this talk of the Mexican CM, does anyone remember another Mexican CM, would probably be about mid 30's now but shone for them in a couple of world cups. Iirc he did eventually move to Europe but I dont think it worked out too well. Cant think of his name but I always remember thinking he played exactly like Keane. Tough f*cker who could pass and shoot too.

    Will do some digging.

Edit: nvm, found him myself, Gerardo Torrado - Always loved that guy

I remember the Essien to United suggestion by a particular contributor last summer.

strange that his name would pop up again in the United thread when he hasn't played yet this season and managed less than 20 games out of 60 last season.

not saying much with that just that its odd :-D but yes, a pre injured Essien type player would be fantastic for United. Not sure that many of that type are around though.

Buttner reminds me of Clubber Lang...

He's here to take Evra's title and he "pities the fool". If he does take Evra's title, all well and good. But if he takes his title and Evra then solicits the help of Denis Irwin to get his "eye of the tiger" and title back, even better.

Throw in a few montages of Evra training furiously in Carrington and on Blackpool beach with Denis looking on approvingly and we could have the makings of something great...
