This is like having that girl you always fancied sitting on your lap and laughing at your jokes before going down the street and riding the lad who used to take yourI lunch money. Well... that's my take on it anyway..

Did you have a bad experience?

    Hypothetical, I swear.

Every summer has its Sahin transfer saga. The last one I remember actually signing was Harry Kewell and we all know how that turned out.

Yes I do, thanks. I used a different term because that was the suggestion being made, that he was almost giving away this result. I don't think "throwing in the towel" is a particularly poor choice of terminology.

As it happens, Des didn't respond to any of my other responses. Go figure.

At least that way you get a hot girl sitting on your lap.

This is more like being stood up for a guy who's richer and has a flashier car, but she's married anyway and will never leave her husband for you so long term you're better off.

    Also hypothetical.

Isn't it more like a really good looking guy who has so many girls chasing after him he can't keep up with them all, so he tells those girls to go and spend the night with one of his uglier mates. He doesn't really care which one mind you.

This is going to sound defeatist but does anybody really think we are going to play the extra 20+ games required to win the Europa with the current thin squad we have, whilst also trying to get as high as possible up the PL table ?

Well then better just use our Academy prospects and fringe players to get the experience. If we go out so be it .

That's why the bigger names have been left behind and a few academy prospects have traveled. Long may this continue.

Fazeli (Sahin's agent) along with emmisaries from Real Madrid is traveling to meet #LFC officials today. Make of it what you will.

Nothing defeatist about it, it's realist.

    1) It's near impossible to instill an attitude into the players of "we don't really want to succeed in this competition" without it rubbing off throughout the squad. See Villa's implosion after they effectively gave up on their EL conquests a few years back.

    2) The senior & big name players in the squad will desperately want to do well in the Europa League, as much as some fans may scoff at it, if they had the choice between a 5th place league finish doing nothing in the cups or a 8th place & winning the Europa League, I'd bet my left nut they'd all pick the later.

In my view, we just need to be somewhat sensible about it. Quite like we appear to be doing for this tie. A mix of first team & squad players, with the ratio shifting toward first team players the tougher the tie & the further we go in the competition.

But surely by leaving the players that he has behind, he is already doing this.

But they can't even influence it now that they are not travelling

oh FFS i really just want this to end.
If he comes to us then thats f*Cken amazing although this is probably unlikely as Madrid are probably just forcing Arsenals hand.

One way or the other he needs to sign for someone before we crack up.

100% agree that apathy can spread at the detriment of the squad.

Let's just see and let Rodgers play a mixed squad and if it's good enough to keep progressing then great, if in the later stages as things get tougher then throw in your stars, but from a fans point of view if we get knocked out in the early or mid season stages then I won't be pissed .

The UEFA Cup is a great competition and it would be great to do well in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,646 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

It is, but i dont think we should pull focus off the PL, The Europa League is a great stepping stone into Europe but id rather duke it out for a CL place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,725 ✭✭✭gafferino

Top 4 is the absolute priority. Getting to the latter stages of Uefa Cup is good though. A win would be fantastic.

No. He is using his squad. Still plenty of big name very good players travelling.

Reina, Kelly, Agger, Coates, Lucas, Adam, Allen, Henderson, Downing, Borini, Carroll all likely to play a part. You're going on (quite intentionally) like he is bringing the U-18's.

First off there is plenty of senior & big name players travelling & going to be playing a part.

Second off, tonight is the first leg of the tie. Can they be introduced for the second if required? I think they can.

I get you're in the kind of "Liverpool are so ****" mood that has you giddy but try & wind your neck in a little. We should have more than enough to get by Hearts over two legs, even when not at full strength. If that's complacency, so be it. I think it's realism.

Hazard with 5 assists in first two games. Decent i suppose.

If our squad isn't good enough to do both, we've no chance of getting a top 4 place anyway.

Agreed but if/when we get knocked out I don`t think many will be too bothered.

Depends how far we go really, if we make it to the 1/4 finals, I want us going all out to win it.

I think the approach of using fringe players is correct tbh. The city game is more important.
