Pacheco confirmed on twitter he's not involved tomorrow. I cant understand how he never gets a chance. Not even on the bench. All the while the likes of cole get minutes. It's bizarre!

He's quite obviously not good enough. I really don't get the confusion about Pacheco. Four managers now have deemed him not good enough. That says it all.

We'll sell him to someone like Rayo Vallecano or Betis and that will be his level at most.

Maybe he's not good enough but I'd have him in ahead of that waster Cole

As much as Cole is done, useless, overpaid etc. etc. which is all true. The fact of the matter is that Pacheco has been rejeced by 4 Liverpool Magers, the Athletico Madrid manager and by the Rayo Vallecano manager, I like the lad but at some stage people hve to bow to superior judgement.

    Aren't they stone broke?

It should be obvious really, what would you do if you had players in the squad you wanted to sell?. Thats why Cole has featured over the last month, shop window.

Could people not use Neil Mellor as an example. The lad scored goals for fun at all youth levels and reserves. I had so much hope for him. As good as these young lads look, none of them match Mellor.

People, don't be getting your hopes up.

What baffles me with Pacheco though is that whenever he plays, he looks good.

He always shows for the ball, rarely loses it stupidly (he did more when he was younger, but not much any more), beats players and can pick an intelligent pass (all of the above were evident for example in preseason against Roma - the toughest team we've faced this year so far, where he was one of our best players). Honestly, based on his performances in the first team, he has shown more than enough promise to play more. He's obviously also well liked, considering how many various events on twitter show him out for dinner with different players. (Borini recently mentioned how much effort Dani put into making him feel welcome etc).

It just baffles me, when you see someone like Downing hiding on the wing, marking himself out of the game for long stretches.

Considering he plays in a position we're particularly weak in, I really don't see why he's not an option at least. I'm very confident over a 90 minute game he contributes more than Sterling, who is still very much a player of 'flashes'.

Using Mellor as an example, as mentioned above - he looked out of depth in the first team (Arsenal appearance aside), while Pacheco doesn't.

I'm not saying Pacheco is or will be a world beater, but he's certainly a viable option, and one on very low wages. Exactly the type of intelligent versatile player every squad needs.

Thats Adam and Spearing in the starting 11 then.

    Well, I really hope (against Hearts) he doesnt play the front line he played against Bayer Leverkusen in the second half;

It was Adam, Spearing, Henderson, Shelvey, Sterling and Carroll. 4 central players and we just didn't hold onto the ball enough or create enough. Fair enough Carroll got a goal, but I dont think it was a good selection of players from Rodgers, he could have mixed it up better (played some of them in the first half for instance) to give them more of a chance.
    (i think it was..)

    Spearing Adam

    Henderson Shelvey Sterling

    Carroll

While I know we're playing city on sunday, I think just phoning it in against Hearts would be a bad idea.

If we lose tonight it adds pressure on BR that we dont really need at the start of the season, as we all seen from saturday.... every loss is scrutinised down to the core.

I don't see any suggestion that he's throwing in the towel tonight. We've been crying out for the likes of Robinson and Sterling to get games, they deserve it and are good enough - in the SPL, they would already be first XI players. The likes of Carroll, Adam, Henderson and Spearing were all regulars in our two cup runs last season. And Kelly and Coates are no bad replacements.

Also, having just come out of pre-season, this combination is as likely to perform as any, we don't have a hard-and-fast first XI yet.

We'll have too much quality. If we stick to the game plan and stay patient, worst we will get is a draw.

He didn't say Liverpool were "throwing in the towel", he said a performance was being phoned in, a different concept entirely.

The suggestion has some merit, with the type of quality that hasn't even travelled for this game it suggests that the manager doesn't see Hearts as much of a threat.

It's a bit silly, imo, and kind of suggests that he is not too bothered about the EL.

Now, that may be the case, that he may not really care one way or the other if his team progresses, and that's his look out as manager. Especially if he's going to concentrate on a higher placed league finish this season, maybe challenge for the CL places, although a 3-0 loss to WBA suggests that may not come any way easy.

Jesus, comments like this make me hope even more for an upset.

Arrogant much? You probably thought the same before the WBA match too.

Hoping for Sterling to get a significant run out tonight, a good hour or 70 mins. Same with Robinson. Am interested in seeing how henderson performs in BR's game plan, hopefully he isn't shunted wide right where he is least comfortable.

    Entirely? No. Slightly? Yes.

He's already said that the EPL is the focus. But we have a home leg to come, so if tonight doesn't go well, we have a home game to put it right. And the Sunday game is HUGE.

That loss is an anomoly, we were not thrashed. A wonder goal, a sending off, 2 penalties? Hardly a normal game for us. But even despite that, it was always a game we'd have difficulty with, first time out...

It has nothing to do with arrogance. Our first team will be full of international players, playing in their best positions, playing possession football. Why should we not BELIEVE that we are good enough to take away a draw? Did I say we'd thrash them? No, because THAT would be arrogant.

What? Do you actually know what "phoning in" a performance means?

Assuming he is one of the central 3, he shouldn't really need to be side, he should stay central. I'm interested to see how he comes on...

I realise the difference as is pertains to the English language. But the approach is the same - not taking it seriously, not giving it our best shot, treating it as a secondary concern...

One thing I didn't mention - Rodgers is clearly using this to put pressure on getting extras signings in. Talking about how he can't let Carroll go cause he's only 3 strikers, about how he's a small squad, had to let a number of players leave, etc. Going to Scotland with a combination of squaddies, kids and some starters only tells the owners "We can't compete for cups with this squad...!"

And the owners say "Yeah cool, we sacked the last manager who won one cup, and got to the final of another".

This is like having that girl you always fancied sitting on your lap and laughing at your jokes before going down the street and riding the lad who used to take your lunch money. Well... that's my take on it anyway..
