    Surprised Spurs are selling him and surprised he is going to a team like QPR.

    I thought the same as you about Rio this time last year and he produced a great season. We desperately needed him last night.

    Dawson is very good. Think its short sighted by Spurs selling him.

    They must really need funds, otherwise its an awful move.

    He'd be a decent signing for city if they need a squad player for CB.

    What you on about? I'd play Vidic, Smalling, and dare i say it Johnny Evans ahead of him now so YES he has gone down in importance. IMO.

    I know people are super defensive at the moment because of the Rooney Ridiculousness but I'm not knocking Rio.

    He is getting older and can get an injury out of nowhere. If I had to move one centre half out to bring in another I would choose Rio.

    When you put it like that I'm even more shocked this is happening. Such a weird transfer policy from Spurs.

    Rio & Vidic is a far better partnership than Evans and Vidic, always has been. For me only Smalling would be ahead of Rio, but even then there isn't much in it, and Smalling is out for 2 months. So no, Rio is very much of importance, he was absolutely immense for us last season, and I'd rather not swap one of the top CBs in the League (when fit) for Dawson.

    They will have 4 centre backs - Kaboul, Gallas, Vertonghen and Caulker - who is one of the most promising defenders in the league.

    AND Spurs loaned out that south african guy Khumalo...

    makes zero sense, like theyre actively trying to leave themselves short in that position!!

    Exact same thing AVB did at Chelsea. Got rid of Alex and didnt replace him. Only had 3 centre backs.

    Thats how you end up with Bosingwa centre back and Paulo ferreira fullback.

    Awful awful management.

    Although when gallas leaves, probably end of season they will have to go and sign somebody then.

    He wasn't better than Evans last year. No i'm not having that.
    And Smalling is getting better and is arguably as good as current Rio Ferdinand.
    He is better than Jones but Rio is the wrong side of 30. Jones is for the future.

    Rio was great last year. The injuries are just so regular now that its a surprise when he isn't injured. Would I sell him for money? No. Would I swap him for a good defender who is a few years younger? Probably.

    Guts of 10 mill for a 28 year old sounds like a Levy style deal. Make some money while he can.

    Rio was vital last season and is proven at a high level. He is needed to help Smalling and Jones develop their game (evans as well). I think United lost enough experienced defenders last summer with Neville, Brown, O'Shea, Van Der Sar all going.

    What a difference 24 hours can make on this thread.
    The amount of people I thought were decent level headed posters coming across as absolute mentals is hilarious.
    After losing to Everton last night it now seems
    Rooney and Anderson are fat

    Vidic is too skinny

    A Belgian with an afro played up front but somehow destroyed our midfield

    He is also capable of winning us the League but the most successful manager in history can't see it

    Rio should be swapped for Dawson

    Kagawa is the new Cantona

    Evra for league 2 if he's lucky

    Nani can fcuk off for 5 mil

    And RVP won't do it for United

    Fcuking great read lads cheers. Haven't had a laugh like that in a long time

    Rooney always has fitness issues. Why is this news to anyone? It happens every summer. There are plenty of photo's out there of him looking like a porker. He clearly enjoys himself when he isn't playing and thats either in the summer or when injured. When he got injured before South Africa and was out for a while, Capello still picked him and he was wildly out of shape because he hadn't played.

    It will take another month or so of hard training and matches for him to shed the weight and get up to match fitness. There are many players who are similar and suggestions that he is not a great player or that he hasn't fulfilled his potential is nonsense. When he starts banging them in people will feel pretty silly when they read back their alarmist posts.

    Last few hours are not all bad in the thread. Everyone is managing to avoid a complete loss of the plot like the infamous one last time round, so the thread is in a far better place than this time last season - even though we actually lost a game this time round.

    I wonder what will happen with Henriquez. Will he be sent back to Chile? Rumours of an interest in one of the mexican Olympic players so we could have an interesting week or so yet depsite the manager playing down any hope of more signings.

    EDIT:sorry i'm probably not supposed to talk about re-reg's or anything like that. Ignore that bit if you already read it.

    It was kaka doing the rounds on twitter, tonight it is Philippe mexes from Ac Milan. Do we need another defender? Surely a creative midfielder is what we should be looking for

    I'd bet my life that there is no more defenders coming to United. Unless someone is sold to make way.

    A Kaka loan would actually be a good punt for half a dozen Premiership teams. There is very little risk. Real just want him gone at this stage.

    €16.99 if you're just signing up but you can threaten to cancel it after a while and you might get them down to €5.99,that's the lowest I got it for.
