How would you explain it Dr.Moses

It's to be expected with the amount of cardio he would have been doing to get back to match fitness after such a long injury. He would have had to cut his daily calorie count which would result in muscle loss. Now that he's back training and playing he'll be able to go back to his normal diet and increase bulk over the next month or two

Doing a lot of cardio doesn't mean he would have had to reduce his calorie intake. If anything I'd have expected him to come back bigger after six months in the gym when he couldn't walk than visibly smaller after a month of cardio.

I believe that the extra volume of what appeared to be the beginnings of a Jew-fro has caused an optical illusion making us view Vidic as being smaller than he actually is. This voluminous new hair has the same kind of effect as when a person who is 6ft 3in stands beside somebody like Shaquille O'Neal and they look like a small child in comparison.

That's why he would have had to lower calories. He would have come back bigger, but it would have been fat. With his injury he would have been unable to do any compound excersises for a few months and I doubt he was in the gym doing bi-cep curls and chest flies the whole time. He probably did alot of swimming which is common practice for knee rehab and as everyone knows if theres one thing that'll slim you down it's swimming

My tuppence worth on last night.

    1. It was a bad result but it was a game that I was honestly concerned about, especially once I knew that we would have only two recognised defenders on the pitch. When a team finds itself in that situation it's very hard to deliver a coherent performance. Lads are trying to do things that they are not used to and invariably something goes wrong.

    2. Rooney clearly isn't fit and while we can all call him unprofessional or whatever, he should be okay in a couple of weeks. But if this fitness issue persists and is still a talking point by the end of September then we have a problem on our hands.

    3. Nani looks like he is hugely unsettled at the club and he needs to sort out his situation very soon. He shouldn't start the next match.

    4. De Gea is going to win us a lot of points this season. He is world class.

    5. Kagawa's vision and touch is similar to Iniesta's and while he has only played one game for us (forget pre season), it's clear that he is going to be immense for us this season and beyond.

    6. Evra's performance wasn't as dreadful as some of his displays last season but he needs to be kept on his toes all the time now. I hope Buttner is the man to do that. We'll just have to wait and see.

I missed part of the match because my tablets fell diwn behind the rad . I had to take the rad off to get them . But only once did i see a united player take someone on around the edge of the box .
If poxy rio hadnt of felt the need to tell everyone he was injured maybe everton wouldnt have used operation batter carrick . Moyes had a week to plan that thanks to captain twitter.
I am expecting them to be alot better next week.
If everton can keep everyone fit they will finish higher than liverpool again.

I can't believe people are still saying Fellaini - who was more or less playing as a striker and mainly targetted our fullbacks in aerial duels - dominated the midfield area. How many times does it have to be explained that this wasn't the case?

How many people come wading in here to give their opinions on the game without clearly having watched any of it?

    Unbelievable.

Disappointing, but we always start slow. Some major problems still exist from last year namely us being a bit timid (especially carrick) and not liking being pressed in the game.

De Gea - 9 MOM. Could have been 4-0 if it wasn't for him

    Valencia - 5 Not a right back
Carrick - 4 Not a centre back, but I just wished he would have let Fellini know he was there by challenging him or giving a good push at times to put him off.
Vidic - 7 Good to have him back
    Evra - 4 Not a left back

    Nani - 3 Brainless
Cleverley - 6 Lots of energy.
Kagawa - 8 Sexy at times
    Scholes - 5.5 Getting old
Welbeck - 5 Bambi on ice

Rooney - 2 Dreadful. Fat, terrible touch and THAT header. Maybe scoring him 2 was generous. Worst player on the pitch by a mile

    RVP - n/a
    Young - n/a
    Anderson n/a - looked chunky

Don't bother mate. People here are concerned with finding any reason to complain about our midfield situation to can't actually see what's on front of thier eyes.

To an extent that was correct. Everton bypassed our midfield by playing long balls, but there were many instances where he won aerial and ground duels with our midfield too.

Listen to what your saying. Rooney is a forward, he is supposed to run into the box and get close to goal. He didn't look fully fit and people are slating him. He did try but he is not match fit yet.

Rooney would have had a good game if he took one shot from distance that went wide? Eh no.

Too right people are slating him, this is a lad who held the club to ransom because we weren't signing the right players.

Last night he had the chance to play alongside an exciting new attacking player and his own decision to spend the summer gorging on taco fries instead of keeping fit was detrimental to that partnership, his own performance and the teams.

He'll most likely get in better shape, come good and bag 25+ goals this season, but we are talking about a player who publicly stated his desire to walk out on us, a player who earns 220k a week (afaik) and a player who - at least until now - has been seemingly untouchable, starting games even when visibly out of form. Basically, he has more to prove than most and thus faces harsher criticism from fans.

One bonus about signing RVP may not be simply how he plays with Rooney, but the genuine competition (aka kick up the arse) he will present.

it's not that they didn't watch it.

it that some will have watched, seen Fellaini dominate, and just assumed because he's a midfielder, that midfield was where he did the damage, without actually thinking back and going..."hmm, he seemed to be around Carrick and Valencia an awful lot....".

This is a very valid point and is further confirmation if any was needed that Rio is a dope.

They either didn't watch or they have a bee in their bonnet about the midfield situation and will bang that drum as loud as they can and blame it every single time anything goes wrong at the club. Any day now someone'll blame Carrick and Anderson for the share price being below expected levels.

You could argue that Valencia and Carrick are midfielders... :pac:

We're going to sign Kaka on loan and use him as a Left Back.

I also agree wholeheartedly with those advocating Rooney being dropped. Don't put him near a matchday squad until he hits boxing weight. He came back last Summer fit as a fiddle and slimmer than he's been in years. When you see him looking all angry and pink in the face with a big shiny head on him after 20 minutes then you know well he let himself go badly over the Summer. Unacceptable and now that we have players of the quality of Shinji and RVP his starting place is no longer sacred.

Why were Utd beaten so well last night? Have they an average team?

Yeah, 10 years of being in decline and all.

I wouldn't say we were dominated in midfield because we weren't. It's what we didn't do that showed what limited ability we had in that department. Cleverley yesterday was reasonably disciplined with his positioning as was Scholes. The problem started when we had the ball in the middle. We became too predictable and it didn't help that Rooney and Nani underperformed massively. Scholes and Cleverley played some good stuff at times but they were a million miles and a few years behind Kagawa on the ball. Kagawa always was looking ahead and was looking to create something and tried to make it happen for us. Scholes and Cleverley were more focused on not losing the ball instead of trying to play it further up the pitch. When you are trying to break down a solid team like Everton; passing it amongst yourselves tends to fail more often than not and we failed to press them high up the pitch and lacked a serious edge with the ball at our feet (minus Kagawa).

Fellani destroyed us in the air but we shouldn't of let Everton dictate how the game was played. We have much better footballers than them. I'm reluctant to hammer the midfield because I think the team selection and the formation was poor. Nobody really knew what they were doing, bar Kagawa, and Welbeck is not someone who plays left in a front three. Valencia is not a right back and Carrick is certainly not a CB. It was incredibly frustrating to dominate so much of the ball with such little result.

It's hard to take a lot from the game because Rooney and Nani performed so badly. But I certainly wouldn't be dropping Kagawa to fit in Rooney or to fit in two CMs and play van Persie. I certainly wouldn't go with a Scholes-Cleverley combination again and it took Andesron (:p) to take a chance with the ball.

The statements about Rooney and Anderson aren't jokes. Both are a f..king disgrace. Fat unprofessional jokers. One is being paid a million pounds a month, and he comes back after the summer beered and burgered out of it. Players should start the season fighting fit, and if they don't because of self indulgence, then they should be fined heavily. I was watching the game last night with two female non football fans and both were laughing at Rooney and Anderson and saying "look at the two boys...pints on the beach all summer!".

It's an insult to their colleagues and an insult to the fans.

For all the Fellaini love, the fella has had plenty of ****e games for Everton. One big performance against us and he's suddenly the answer to our prayers?? Come onnnnnn....

Agree with the poster who already mentioned this, I can't understand Van Persie taking the corners, he should be in the box.

Sure there's no point in him being in the box if Nani is going to hit the first man with every corner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭bullvine

Totally agree on Fellaini, his performance was more Drogba than Keane or Vieira, bit of perspective. He wouldnt be the answer to midfield issues, he seems to play much further up field. I think if we had of had Carrick or Fletcher beside Cleverley and Smalling in Center Back things would have been better.

Everton seemed to get forward to quickly when United lost the ball around the everton box.

Also what your doing is agreeing with a Pool supporter who hasn't posted here in a long time but surprise surprise turns up the morning after our defeat to slate one of our star players, who just happens to be ex Everton, by comparing him to one of our worst players, after one game and using one bad shot as the barometer to judge them and you can't even see it.

SlickRick must be laughing at how gullible some ppl are in here

I think you need to get the tin foil hat off. Ric is fully entitled to post in this thread and is one of the better posters. So what if he is a Liverpool supporter?

Your last sentence is just utter nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Fellaini is the answer for our midfield problems. Forget about yesterday's game, he has all the attributes to become very good CM which he is already.

Works hard, tackles, aerially dominant, physical presence and very good on the ball than given credit for. He can play with Carrick or in place of Carrick. He is versatile too and great threat from set pieces.

    ha, true.

just one of the other way the perhaps untrained eye may have been mistaken into thinking Utd's midfield got destroyed last night.

Would you rather Nani take them and hit the first man every time? RVP is a much better option for corners.

Just to point out Van Persie hit the first man with his first two corners. Not sticking up for Nani, but why doesnt Scholes take them then.
