Athlone Junior Scratch Cup was at the weekend.

I came 2nd in absolutely awful conditions. 14 pars, 2 dbl bogeys, 2 tbl bogeys ;) for an 82. Winner shot 79. Could have won it easy, heh

Course probably could have been closed half way through the day though. some incredible amount of rain fell.

Yeah saw that but not in yesterdays or todays Times or Indo, although we get quite early editions into work.

Just a bit anxious about the cut off:(

Some handicap required, would be a good one to go watch if you were in the area with a few hours to spare. Regarding the Mullingar Scratch Cup any idea why it's so popular? Must be one of the most contested scratch cups in the country with some impressive past winners, guessing it's between itself and the midlands scratch cup in Carlow for the most coveted?

My only hope is showing up on the day and hoping for a no show.

Haven't seen the draw but doubt I even made a waiting list!

Dromoland is a 4 hour round at the best of times. Could be painfully slow

What's dromoland like to take the rain? Any chance it could get cancelled on Sunday?

Yeah its gonna be great craic alright!! I'm down at 10.20am. You playing?
If it rains, it'll be a 6 hour job!

    How'd you enjoy dromoland?

My first time playing it, will definately go back there again. It took 5 hours which was slow but still enjoyed it. Finished with an 81. Happy enough as I had 4 double bogeys!!!!

Yeah enjoyed it alright. Nice course, I'll be back next year. Wouldn't pay €60-€70 to play it though....
    Shot 90....had a 7 at the 2nd and a 9 at the 8th :(
Thought the greens were tough. Once the ball went past the hole, it would take off (from the high side!) :)
Highlight of the round was a drive and 9 iron to 5 feet at the 4th. Nice eagle :)
    It's not really a par 5 though!
Took just short of five hours alright. Not too bad I thought as that's what I suspect.

Jees that's nuts, crazy shooting in the junior as also two 73s. Played in the JSC today with a poor 82 but an improvement on my form of late. First time playing Beech Park and although on the short side and the opening holes are a bit featureless the designed Amen corner certainly spices things up for a great back nine. Greens were nice and fast and course well presented with some tough pins so surprised there were such low scores but weather was ideal really.

Was slow going alright - but a lot of first time players and tricky lies for chipping. Was +4 after 9, +5 standing on the 18 tee & happy enough. Lost sight of first tee shot heading into the trees long. Found the Provo out of bounds, never found the first - so back to the tee & hit again - pulled it - hit the road & OB again!!!!! Livid doesnt begin to cover it!!! Hate turning in an NR.

Coming off the course, I'd have thought 74 was the number to shoot, I'd never have guessed someone was going to shoot under-par. But the course set-up wasn't too unkind, hence some good scoring.
The greens were actually a touch on the slow side compared to what they'd normally be. I thought they got the balance right with the pin positions. They've 5 or 6 greens on that course where they have the option of putting some really nasty pins, thankfully they didn't use any of those today.

    Thinking about travelling as well.

Pl;ayed it a few years ago but the weather was awful and we only got the first 5 in. Heard some good things about it.

Member there and hoping to be back to play the senior scratch. we'll mind you well. 9.30 shotgun start on Sunday. Handicap limit 6 (not every club is as popular as Mullingar). Course in good nick although it needs a bit of a respite from the rain. Dry today and promised reasonably dry so should be ok.

Woodstock senior scratch cup has been cancelled. Very wet weather in Clare thus week has brought the course to a point where it wouldn't be good enough to host a ssc. To be rescheduled.
