Yes I will most definitely. 1998 was a great turnout. It won't be quite as epic as that this time but it should be good all the same.

I have some great photos from the last time, I thought it was a great day out. A free show for Dublin.

I booked a seat on a cruise that goes up around all the ships for a euro. I've never seen them before so I'm excited.

We had an AH thread for the Volvo boat race in Galway.

Their won't be as many ships as there were in 1998 and not so many big ones either.
I will be a nice change though!

They're arriving now and Thursday afternoon they'll make their way up the river.
Traffic chaos to be expected on the quays later this week.

I don't get all the fuss about tall ships. Why do people go mental for them ? They are ships. They are tall. What am I missing ?

People are naturally drawn to tall things

Ah it will still be class and there will be plenty of big ones there.
I think some of the boats that were here from the B category have been bumped into the A category this time.

They are truly things of beauty. Its reminds us of an era of exploration and the sea was a place of mystery and exploration and very dangerous.

I'll be the power-mad crowd controller on the Quays so I should be easy to spot :D

You'll never host the tall ships as amazingly as Waterford did. Thats a fact. Anywhere in Europe would have a hard time beating them. So get down of your ignorant horse.

How do you host ships? Surely once you have water for them to float in you've successfully hosted them?

Waterford is one of the only locations where the tall ships can actually sail right up the river into the city centre which produces a great atmosphere. It is one of only a few locations in Europe where this is possible.

In Dublin the tall ships are stuck out in the docklands.

The Tall Ships organisers are on record as saying that Waterford is one of their preferred locations and are hoping to come back in the next few years.

There's a reason why we have hosted the Tall Ships twice in the past seven years.

But it was a nightmare for the visitors, you couldn't get acc and the spaces available they overcharged and the traffic was madness.

But I believe it was worth it.
