Wellbeck is not an attacking midfielder. He's a hard working albeit technically limited striker.

If Welbeck is 'technically limited' then I'd hate to hear what you think about Chicarito.

I'd stated a number of times that Chicarito's touch is poor...I like Wellbeck, don't get me wrong. I just think that he's limited. Great worker, great attitude (like Hernandez). I just think that both are limited, and that (say) when RVP gets too old we'll just end up buying someone else (rather than Chicharito or Wellbeck stepping up to be undisputed number one with Rooney).

I disagree, since his loan spell at Sunderland, Welbeck's touch and link-up play have been his best attributes. He showed that last season, and in the summer for England. He just needs to add goals to his game.

Hernandez is technically limited, but makes up for it with his movement and finishing(he has scored with his face and bollocks).

RVP - well he just has the best of Welbeck and Hernandez rolled into one. He can link up and pass, and he is a great finisher.

    lads,

by the way, whats the link again that gives a history of all transfers? a liverpool fan laughed at the notion that i said City have spend more in the last 3-4 years, than United have in 25...need to proove him wrong, as usual.
I do also enjoy a bit of it but some have really driven me mad eg; the whole Sneijder crap of last summer became a real pain in the a*se.

I'd say the Hazard saga this summer too but maybe I'm only sour over that because he eventually snubbed us.

but these werent rumours or crap, both these transfers were "done deals" in the opinion of united senior officials, both just fell by the wayside once it came to the s*it or get off the pot stage.

sure even fergie said the RVP deal took months to sort.

I think if this was an ordinary good player coming in for free on 80k, most here would say hey, not needed but whatever Fergie, at least hes not costing much. But because this players name is Kaka, people are up in arms.

Would Kaka improve us? Imo, yes. Maybe not by much, but for 80k a week its hardly much of a risk. I don't need a BMW at this stage of my life. But if I was offered the free lend of one for a year Id happily pay the petrol costs.

Of course this is all probably futile. Just weird to see people being so against it

What's all this 80k a week talk? he's on 250k a week, Real aren't gonna pay 170k of his wages every week for him to play for us surely?

    250k must be Euros?

    That's £200k give or take.

United paying (say) £100k of the £200k for the 40 weeks of the season would be £4m.

Peanuts for a club like United.

By all accounts he's a model pro so surely exposure to him would benefit Wellbeck et al?

Probably never gonna happen so too much said about it at this stage. Just my view but I'd take a punt on him. Upside far bigger than downside.

    He's not a great finisher.

There's an awkwardness about him (on the ball) that guys like Rooney and RVP just don't have.

I like Wellbeck - Don't get me wrong. I'm just of the view that a club with our resources should have absolutely works class players up front (people of the calibre of Rooney, RVP, Tevez, Villa, RVN etc). It's great that Wellbeck's English, Mancunian, hard working and plays with a smile on his face. I just don't think that he's top drawer/world class and don't see him ever being so.

Real Madrid pay players in Sterling? I'm surprised they agree to that...

I disagree, I can honestly see Welbeck proving you to be emphatically wrong at some point. Time will tell.

I also think Welbeck is a little over-rated. When Fergie is comparing the current 4 of Chico, Welbeck, RVP and Rooney with 1999's Teddy, Ole, Yorke and Cole he's literally 'avin a laff.

well yes i agree, Welbeck is a decent player, but he is over rated. he has a good work rate, is quick and strong, however i think he is a level below the top notch strikers and to be the second striker at United, you need to be better.

comparing to 99 is tough, Yorke and Cole were an awesome partnership so nobody will know how RVP and Rooney will work out and that could take a long time to come to fruition. teddy was a 10-15 goal a season striker like Welbeck is, but Welbeck does have time on his side. i think hernandez and Ole can be on a par in terms of impact and goals for the club and while Ole was a better finisher, Hernandez can match his record and is lethal off the bench.

saying that, Ole was the best of the lot, an absolutely incredible player. its really hard to judge, the did have one of the best midfields in the history of football backing them up and perhaps the best crosser of a ball in football wipping in crosses.

I personally think he is top notch. I think he is a very intelligent player too. I really thought when they bought Kagawa that he was going to announce himself as an elite striker this year. Clearly he is not going to get much of a chance to do that now with RVP arriving there. It still wouldn't surprise me if he shows enough when he gets starts to make it tough to leave him out of the United team. I think he has everything, what you are saying there about awkwardness on the ball is something I've seen a couple of times but its usually when he has three defenders around him. You'll see RVP just as awkward in similar situations.

Welbeck looks awkward because hes a tall lad who hasnt filled out fully yet. But his first youch is lovely, his passing especially one touch stuff us very good and hes extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Will will be top class in the future when his finishing improves. He will be first choice for Utd for many years.

Have to give him some leeway. He was hoping to sign for a club like southampton and instead got picked by united. Living the dream

Could we not have bought someone more established? Sure we might have been better off keeping Fabio than paying out for this guy...having said that will be interesting to see how he does if/when given the chance.

I texted my Uncle to see did he know anymore about Dembele or Strootman.

I basically got back that Fulham are reluctant to sell unless its swap deal. Fergie is still interested and if another player is not for better value or comes in, then expect a tempting bid before transfer day. (more likely during week).

People can take it for what it is. Best maybe to wait and see rather then talk about this now.

    Important match later.:)

fergie seems to like one of these low cost punts every now and then, we have 4 or 5 of them over the past 4 or 5 years.

Lindegaard has been a really good purchase and i suppose Obertan and Diouf both turned into re-sells who have been decent players, just not good enough for United. De Laet was a strange one, he has been sold on and i think fee recouped so i guess overall, the policy is working Miller/Bellion are two more examples and i suppose you can include Tosic in there too.

i have a feeling however, this lad is a step about the likes of Obertan and Diouf and will proove to be a decent buy and good back up. he seems like a right headcase.
