Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but Kaka won't be joining Utd so the debate is futile.

Seems David Gill has confirmed Utd have been offered Kaka. Maybe I spoke too soon.

All this Kaka talk seems to be very much in vein, Guillem Balague dismissed it fairly confident as a complete non-story yesterday.

@GuillemBalague: As many of you are asking, is completely false that Manchester United have contacted Madrid about Kaka. Nothing at all in it

Balague is normally very reliable with any Spanish activity.

    No, he's not.

He's kind of like a Spanish Eamon Dunphy, all sensationalism........

Yea, I dunno how reliable he is but I hate his smugness. He states his opinion like it's fact, like we should run to him for inside information on Spanish football.

I can't stand Balague myself, but he dosnt make **** up. I agree he's normally clued in when it comes to transfers to/from la liga, people saying he isn't are likely letting thier personal feelings toward him cloud thier judgement.

Still can't have him though, turn it over when he's on revisita...

Ya what? Technically limited striker? One of the more technically gifted stikers in the league. His ability to control a ball under pressure, dribble past a player or pick a pass is fantastic.

Needs to be more clinical in front of goal for sure but technically limited is way off the mark.

A lot of his attempts on goal seem to be way off the mark tbh

I think if this was an ordinary good player coming in for free on 80k, most here would say hey, not needed but whatever Fergie, at least hes not costing much. But because this players name is Kaka, people are up in arms.

Would Kaka improve us? Imo, yes. Maybe not by much, but for 80k a week its hardly much of a risk. I don't need a BMW at this stage of my life. But if I was offered the free lend of one for a year Id happily pay the petrol costs.

Of course this is all probably futile. Just weird to see people being so against it

What's all this 80k a week talk? he's on 250k a week, Real aren't gonna pay 170k of his wages every week for him to play for us surely?

If Welbeck is 'technically limited' then I'd hate to hear what you think about Chicarito.

    @ProF

    Powell? Anderson? Wellbeck?

Having these guys is not a reason to let the opportunity to get Kaka on the cheap pass by.

Powell was doing his stuff at Crewe two months ago and you're using him as a reason not to sign Kaka on the cheap?

Wellbeck is not an attacking midfielder. He's a hard working albeit technically limited striker.

And the amount of nonsense spouted about Anderson on these pages is incredible (that isn't aimed at you ProF). The guy has proven nothing at United. He comes across as lazy and unprofessional and IMO he's been one of Fergie's worst signings. I'd dump him in a heartbeat. He's like the idiot son whose parents hope he turns his life around.

The first choice and first back up for ACM/no.10 are Rooney and Kagawa, they are both excellent and bot better than Kaka. After that Cleverley is excellent in the role as well. Powell, Welbeck and Anderson are further down the list and they will all need any unimportant games that are going, so Kaka would be impeding their development if he came in. So it's not a direct competition between Kaka and the bottom three lads.

Re Powell: I am absolutely using him as a reason to not sign Kaka. We just spent 3 or 4 million on Powell (I can't remember exactly), why on earth would we not use him?

Re Welbeck: Calling him a technically limited striker is madness. He is very technically gifted and he has shown that he is good in the ACM/no.10 role as well as on the wing.

Re Anderson: I think he is lazy as well and I'm not a fan of his either. So I wouldn't mind if he was sold. It's very late in the window to be moving him on now though.

But he's not exactly sensationalising this though, basically dismissing it altogether. Time will tell I suppose weather his call on this was accurate or not.

    Interesting stat from last season:
"They (Man Utd) had 51 fewer shots than Liverpool in the last season, but scored 41 more goals."

    link

Yeah but that isnt anything to do with technical ability, its composure, making the right decision etc..

There are loads of strikers who can score goals for fun but are very limited technically. Look no further than Hernandez.

I'm guilty of taking speculation as fact there alright. That seems to be the figure touted. It'll all likely prove to be bollocks anyway

Its ludicrous people are even giving this Kaka rubbish the time of day. Never gonna happen. I'd say our business is done now.

Even better than that, have a look at Filippo Inzaghi. 288 club goals and he was as technically limited as I've seen.

Incredibly gifted striker in other aspects of the game though.

Yeah I just hate how he thinks he's the be all and end all on Spanish football, same with Graham Hunter a bit too.

Never listened to him since he decided to break the news that Ronaldo was 100% gone to Madrid the same evening Portugal got put out of Euro '08. Yes there probably was an agreement put in place for transfer the next Summer but he jumped the gun waaaaaaaaaaaay too quickly.

Very true, a case of trying the you heard it here first effort. Just glad the football is back now it might quell the fanning of transfer rumour flames a bit, until the madness of deadline day of course.

I seem to be the only one who loves all the wacky rumours during transfer season!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭aidan24326

Whether a striker is technically gifted or technically limited hardly matters, what's important is can he put the ball in the net?

Ian Rush would be a good example I think. Far from the most gifted or skilful player you'll see but by god he knew where the net was.

Anyway with Welbeck there's no problem with his ability but he does need to start scoring a few more goals, and I'm assuming he will get a reasonable amount of gametime.

I do also enjoy a bit of it but some have really driven me mad eg; the whole Sneijder crap of last summer became a real pain in the a*se.

I'd say the Hazard saga this summer too but maybe I'm only sour over that because he eventually snubbed us.
