Arshavin giving it away needlessly again, useless

Bloody hell some crazy scores in the other matches, shame we can't get any of that.

Giroud only player forward 0-0 at home to Sunderland with 2 minutes left. :(

Looks like this is the price we pay for a better defense. I'll take it over giving away ridiculous last minute goals any day.

I'm happy with what I saw out there.
We were never really threatened, and we probed constantly.
    Not a bad result.
Gervinho was excellent, as was Arteta in midfield.
New boys will take a few games.

Yup, pretty much agree with the above. Uninspiring but not a loss. Bring on next week.

    Cazorla looks like a player.

Little bit of work to be done on that team yet in terms of getting players in - we missed Alex Song out there imo.

Nice to see Diaby come through unscathed too.

Well you wouldn't have taken a win the last 3 home games against Sunderland anyway, so it's not the worst result to whine about.

Absolutely but like I said before, Sunderland (especially under O' Neill) are no pushovers and we haven't beaten them in our past 3 home games. I don't mind seeing us a bit more defensive against a team that could steal a win at the death. Were it a team like Southampton or Reading (no disrespect, they're just the new boys), it wouldn't be good enough however.

I dunno, I'm just a bit worried about what other teams do. Obviously I'd be happy with 38 points and unbeaten at the end of the season but I'd prefer to hit the 40 points mark just to be safe.

Typical opening game of the season result nil at home to sunderland but i suppose a point is satisfactory.Might be abit concerned with where are goals are going to come from but the new signings need abit of time to settle in to the PL.

The people who are pissed over RVP and Song walking away from the club will be expecting us to be better with the players we brought in, I expect us to be just as good so 3rd to 4th and I think that's a very fair expectation.
If we are better then that's just fantastic.

Jenkinson did good though we missed Sagna for some incisive crosses. Quite disappointed that Giroud missed it but played OK, he's strong on the ball which is good to see.

Cazorla played well for a guy that's done a bit of travelling this week. He's eager to win the ball which is great to see and some passes were excellent. I was disappointed with Walcott in the beginning, his awareness wasn't the best, but tbh outside of Gervinho, the forward line were kept under pressure.

Great to see Diaby playing, and surviving! You can see his potential and he's eager to get game time. We need players like that.

OK result, in the fact that we could've scored and chances were there, but for the first game of the season and playing against a well structured Sunderland I think a point is well worth it. Undefeated so far for the season unlike Liverpool  COYG!

    Arsenal have confirmed Song gone.

Was pretty happy with that bar the lack of goal tbh. Cazrola looks like a potential signing of the season and Gervinho was seriously impressive, he got by his man nearly every time. While I am not a Per basher he strikes me as very weak in the tackle for a man his size, every ball he goes in for should be won.

Once Song has left and his replacement in coupled with another option up front I think we will be looking at a proper title challenge this year. Thought the small smattering of boos at the end were a bit premature

Gerv and Gibbs both played quite well I thought , their link up play was good.

Cazorla looked great distributing the ball around. Podolski got a tough ride I think , I was expecting him to start on the left instead of Gerv and Giroud up through the middle. Giroud could have done better with his 1 on 1 as well but these things happen.

I'm happy as we showed some signs of brilliance when attacking. Our limited pre season was always going to show especially against a well structured Sunderland.

    also.

Cazorla operated nicely and wasn't afraid to have a pop. Giroud seems to have a good head about where to make his runs and when to look for the ball. A little more time and I can see them banging them in regularly.

The one good thing is we didn't concede. Some of our passing was very rusty and some of the choices players made were poor but the only way is up, we will improve.

To be honest I think crossing is the one thing Jenks does better than any one our other full backs including Sagna, perhaps didnt quite show it today but still

The spin by Giroud to get inbehind the defence for his miss was a lovely piece of movement, not all about the pass

    Wenger out.

Steady now, it's a long walk to the dressing room.

In all seriousness, that midweek friendly clearly did Arsenal no favours. It was something of a typical season opener. Some poor turnovers in parts and players were slow to get support at times while under pressure. Clearly most players are still trying to find their feet but Gervinho looks well undeway. Some courage appears to have emerged from that abyss some call a forehead.

A point, cleansheet and no injuries. Reasonable but not really satisfactory.

Very little wrong with that performance. A couple of decent chances but for the most part Sunderland defended very well and rarely ventured forward meaning we couldnt create much. When they did go forward we dealt with them fairly easily for the most part. Good to see players like Arshavin tracking back, should result in less goals conceded. Cazorla was clearly exhausted. Give him a couple of games and he should be flying. Podolski did well too but Gervinho was great today. A couple of dead end runs but was always looking to create something, it just didnt happen. A replacement for Song and we should be firing on all cylinders fairly soon.

0-0 at home isnt something to celebrate but it could be worse. We could be Liverpool :pac:

We beat them at home last season. RVP scored a free kick to win it. I'm almost certain of it.

Look, lets try be positive anyway, its been a difficult week, it'll take the new players a little time to bed in, hopefully we're not done in the transfer market as regards additions and hopefully we can go to Mordor next week with a fit team and stick it to the urchins that dwell there. Can we do it on a warm Sunday in Stoke? Course we can.

    On another [less positive] note;

This is nuts as far as I'm concerned. It's going to take something spectacular being pulled out of the hat to make me think otherwise too.

Song proves himself to be yet another mercenary. Fuck him, if he's not proud to wear our crest on his chest he can piss off to Spain to rot and regress like many Arsenal mercenaries have done before him.
