i tested the PSU with my multi meter and all seems to be ok from the 12v and 5v ports. are the looms with buttons hard to wire up or can i get one thats all wired up and ready to roll with buttons and all cos i figure i'll have to solder the 12v and 5v and grounds to it to get it to work right?

You don't need to solder anything to wire a new loom.
You can buy one with the button connectors pre-crimped or crimp them yourself which is advisable as it will be a neater job

Hmm, not wanting to gatecrash too much, but I don't suppose you know where I can buy a full rewire kit for my New Astro City do you?

My JAMMA loom is in bits so I fancy giving it a full overhaul.

When you have new jamma loom installed, you can buy or build jamma to whatever you need adapters

Your better off doing the whole lot again, seriously its easy, you wont have a problem, there will be no messing around. it will take you about 30 minutes to put a new harness in there if you get one thats pre-crimped. it will saving you messing around with whats in there trying to figure out what goes where.

If you plugged the dd3 board into the loom the way its wired now there is a high chance you've killed the dd3 board, depending on whether or not the psu tripped out and what voltages ended up where.
