Post pics. Is it a JVS, Irem, Namco or Konami board? It's possible it may have been modified to a JAMMA connection? Are you saying your JAMMA loom doesn't fit the board or you can't physically install the board in your cabinet?

I'm no expert, plenty of other people here that would be better to help you. However I think your Double Dragon 3 won't fit because you have an different type of JAMMA connector in your cabinet?

No idea what's going on with that poker PCB. Looks like it has connections soldered to it to get it to work right, not sure quite what though.

cheers for having a look mate, from what i can deduce from looking and reading the orange wire is the 12v which is soldered to the board as for the other side i got no idea lol

This is what I had in mind for your Technos PCB.

Technos PCB? is that my poker one? that just turns it to the same jamma that double dragon is that dosent fit the plugs lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

No, your Double Dragon PCB is made by Technos. Technos boards may have a different wiring/connector standard hence you can't connect it or it doesn't work.

Shows wat i know lol but like i said it looks the same as the connector on the board im trying to google different connector types but getting no where

wow, some of the modifications on these old cabs are crazy, i thought the weird jamma harness in my atari nova cab was weird until i seen this!

in the power supply picture, that looks like the old power supplys in the likes of an original pacman etc.. i could be wrong though. could it have been a dedicated cab to one of the pre jamma games that was modified to use jamma?

Looks like a newer power supply and jamma harness was added in? I could be way off, i dont know as much as some of the other lads.

on the monitor when you power it up, does the neck glow on it?

That is more or less what I'm thinking. Hopefully someone will see it and know the answer straight away.

i havent noticed any neck glow but i only powered it up in the day i should power it on now and see if it glows

In the pic with the board and the jamma connecter, it looks like the ground and +5v are running from the jamma connecter to that small bit of board. no idea why though haha

check out this image for a diagram of a jamma connecter.

yeh the "bulb" type thing should glow after a few seconds if its recieving power and working, if not then something is wrong. I have a cab with the same issue at the minute. its a pain when you are a beginner to figure these things out (im only getting into this myself.)

Dont touch anything on that by the way, im sure you know already but they can be dangerous. even when turned off, make sure you read up on the crts before you start messing with them.

if the monitor don't "glow" which means its dead i might convert it to a MAME machine

nearly everything is fixable in these, even if it isnt getting power. it could be the power supply, caps, fuse, anything really. its not a lost cause. Do you get sound or anything from the games when you power on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Prankzter

well plugged it in and it glows yay renewed faith that i can get it working lol

nah no sound or anything but thats with the poker game i cant plug in DD3 to test it lol

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,395 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

You sure it doesnt fit? it looks like a Jamma pcb in the photo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Prankzter

yeh the DD3 is a jamma board but the 2 "ports" in the actual cab i cant seem to get both to fit on the DD3 board

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,395 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

well the black one in the picture looks likes its a jamma connecter. Count the pins on it and compare it to the diagram i posted a few back. if it has the same ammount of pins it should fit on it. i looked up a DD3 Jamma pcb and its the same as the one you have.

So the black connector in your first pic (http://www.flickr.com/photos/85034366@N06/7787134816/in/photostream) isn't Jamma? Is there any artwork or markings on the cab that would tell you what it originally played?

No idea what the green connector is for but as the lads mentioned it sounds like a pre-jamma cab possibly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Prankzter

The black connector is to small to fit over the jamma so maybe its pre jamma

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Just to confirm, neither the green or the black connector fits? If neither does, buy a standard JAMMA loom to fit in the cabinet and that should resolve the issue I'd have thought.

Unless of course that Technos board requires a special adapter?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,395 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

yeh your probably better off getting a jamma harness and taking out that mess and wiring up a new one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Prankzter

neither fit will i have to solder the loom in? i want to change the buttons as it dosent have control sticks wat would be the easiest option

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Have you got any photos of the cabinet in it's entirety? Loads of snaps would help a lot. :)

its pretty easy to wire up. id no experience of doing it up until a couple of months ago.

i'll have to post more pics 2moro as its pretty late here lol but the whole rewire might be the way to go as the loom is cheap enough

I'd say a rewire is the best way to go. You can buy pre-made looms so just connect and you're on your way.

    Good luck. :)

Thats is a 8 liner board + connections, the reason the little green board is there is because the original board connections on the board have shorted out and melted and they used that. if you look at the 8 liner board(poker board) connections it is missing a section top right hand side.that is also why it has been hard wired,if you are fitting joysticks new buttons etc, a new loom is required, also check the switcher power supply for your 5+/12+ etc,if has been hard wired like that it is might also need to be replaced, but if you intend on keeping the machine I would change it for peace of mind they only cost 20+euro

i tested the PSU with my multi meter and all seems to be ok from the 12v and 5v ports. are the looms with buttons hard to wire up or can i get one thats all wired up and ready to roll with buttons and all cos i figure i'll have to solder the 12v and 5v and grounds to it to get it to work right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

You don't need to solder anything to wire a new loom.
You can buy one with the button connectors pre-crimped or crimp them yourself which is advisable as it will be a neater job

Hmm, not wanting to gatecrash too much, but I don't suppose you know where I can buy a full rewire kit for my New Astro City do you?

My JAMMA loom is in bits so I fancy giving it a full overhaul.

When you have new jamma loom installed, you can buy or build jamma to whatever you need adapters

Your better off doing the whole lot again, seriously its easy, you wont have a problem, there will be no messing around. it will take you about 30 minutes to put a new harness in there if you get one thats pre-crimped. it will saving you messing around with whats in there trying to figure out what goes where.

If you plugged the dd3 board into the loom the way its wired now there is a high chance you've killed the dd3 board, depending on whether or not the psu tripped out and what voltages ended up where.
