Wonder what the numbers are like for weekly competitions there?

I didn't hear of anyone joining. I'd say the money will need to drop a bit more yet

Open singles there Friday next for €35 if anyone wants to check it out. I'm on the sheet @ 11.20 if anyone wants to join.

€35 isn't bad for Fota. hopefully the weather is decent

On Barryscourt though and not on Deerpark, would love to play but want to play deerpark.

Ya but for €35 you cant go wrong. The new 9 are nice holes, just not as mature as the original 18. They are a test as they are long.
Reason I'm playing there is that most places will be flooded after all this rain but not Fota!!

Well I asked for a teetime around 1pm. There was a full line @ 11.20 of which I took one spot & the next available was somewhere around 3 I think she said. Don't know if there aretimes available after that.

Anyone hear if Fota attracted many new members in 2012?

Would be interesting to see if the reduced entrance fee made any difference. What are the chances of another drop for 2013

I contacted them about country membership a few weeks back, and they were talking around €1100, which is madness i think.

The details were you had to live over 80 miles away, and you get to play 20 rounds per year. Every round after that incurs a cost.

    Cheaper going for green fees.

Lord alone knows what the full membership is.

Full membership is €5,000 entrance money. Then around €1,800 per year

Sold to a Japanese investor for just under €20 million is the story in today's Irish Examiner. Good news for the golf club I presume

Heard in the last couple weeks that there is an option to join Fota for a year by just paying the sub. That you replace a full member who wishes to take a year out from their golf. They remain a full member and when they return they just continue as normal and you finish up and then if you wish to stay you need to pay the entrance money.

Not sure of the specifics, anyone heard any info on this?

This gives a little more detail. I know it definitely exists because a work colleague of mine availed of it for 2 years.

I'm giving this consideration for next year. I don't exactly have the money spare but it's close enough to me and it's hard not to be impressed with Fota. Personally it's my favourite course in Cork so to be a member would be great

This may have been asked before but are all 27 holes open at any one time or is it just a certain 18 each day while 9 are rested?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 493 ✭✭hades

From the few times i've visited all 27 are open unless there are some heavy duty course work being undertaken.

Ahem....... i've managed to play the full 27 one Saturday when it was particularly quiet. We finished our 18th which was the deerpark 9th, and we just continued onto the 10th.

That sounds good, at least then you could get a quick nine played in the evening regardless of how busy it is

Also does anyone know if they run two competitions at the weekends? do members have the chance to play both days?

Was there last year Big drive and evening golf was great, simple as just popping head in and asking best option. Up new 9 , down 10 or head up the first and off you go. Crazy how quiet place used to be in evenings.

Nice to have the option of practice area also, mind you i chipped and putted no more than twice id say, don't practice at all. I did find a bit of swing it and rip it mentality creeping in as the shear space on most holes leads to that really.

I'd love to join the place, i'm a member of the academy and i try to play the course 3 or 4 times a year. The hello money for me is a real pain.

I tried it once, and i was so nervous on the first hole that i'd be "caught" i put 3 balls into the trees on the right. I promptly walked off the tee and went back to my car.

:D, that made me laugh. You should have just not teed off and walked down the fairway to a make believe stunning drive that had you in position for a go in 2 :)

Sounds good. I like the idea of being able to get a relaxed nine holes in the evening on my own without it taking forever

I'm thinking of joining for 2015 if I can get the option of joining for the year without the hello money. If it went well then I'd consider becoming a full member

Another question, does anyone know if there is any limit on how early you can play in morning on weekdays?
Often in summer I like to be on the first tee for 6am and maybe play until 8am and then out of there. Would there be any issue with that in Fota?
