Why not one shot to disable him rather that what sounded like 8-9 shots and killing him?

Why can't they go for the legs ffs and bring him down that way? Didn't they all get marksman training?

Having said that, I'm not surprised they went for the kill, anyone waving a knife about in the states in front of cops is asking to be shot.

What the witness said is just fcuked up.

according to the report he was shot by two officers, so basically they unloaded their entire clips into his belly.

Cops over here (and any armed police for that matter) are trained to shoot to kill. Using your weapon should be a last resort and if it has to be used, the target should be the torso.

Torso could be anything from the groin to the gullet.

I thought it was the shoulder, to be more specific?

It would be one thing to fire several shots, if he had a gun. Not much he could do at distance with a knife! Justified, me hole!

On one hand - why shoot him 12 times, surely after 3-4 shots he would have been well subdued.

On the other - dafaq is he running around Time Square with an 11" knife out, if he started stabbing people it'd be a far worse situation. He's far from innocent in this situation.

My first post was abit of a joke but we don't know what happened right before the shooting as it's not on camera. From the OP's post though it says he lunged at the/one Police Officers. He really shouldn't have done that and in that situation what other options did the Police have but to shoot him? One or two shots might not have disabled him leaving them open to what ever intent he had in mind.

Cops were definitely out of order if that sequence of events is true.

The comments from people and those taking pictures with the crime scene just make me a little bit sad for the world tbh.

Even forget about shooting in the legs, did none have a tazer gun? or some other nonlethal weapon other than spray. There were loads of them there.

The man lunged at them with a 12inch blade. In that situation, no matter how trained you are, you would shoot and not stop shooting until the knife wielding maniac was on the ground.

That is really terrible footage. There were at least 30 people filming that, and this was the best that was put on youtube?

Whatever about the 12 shots, if there's a man with a knife running around he's going to get killed, 12 seems excessive but it's better than an innocent person being stabbed.

Have you ever even handled a firearm? Shooting at a target the size of a leg from 15-20 feet isn't too hard...when calm. But try when it's actually a person.

12 Shots is a bit excessive given how one could have gone stray, but killing him wasn't excessive, biggest target is the safest target.

Seems like it was an event lasting a bit of time, surely enough time to get rubber bullets, bean bags or a taser on hand to incapacitate him?

On the other side of it, aiming for the centre mass means they are less likely to miss and injure an innocent but in all honesty just walk up and shoot him in the legs
