Goat Moth Caterpillar (was - Identify this massive caterpillar!)

Hi guys, Can anyone help me identify this caterpillar/moth? It was about 6 inches long! I thought some sort of hawk moth but can't see anything resembling it online.... Seen near Lough Ree in Co. Longford. Cheers, CL

Looks like Goat Moth caterpillar. They are about 130mm long which is only 20mm shy of 6 inches.

I see from the Irish Moths website they have been recorded in Longford before

Folks. Image of a live moth I found today. Never seen a moth like it before. Can you identify it? Is it rare or common? The spots on his legs look great, almost silver looking, and a nice pointed nose
