Books never arrived from Easons

I ordered a set of books from Easons on the 15th July. When I got to the checkout it said they were out of stock but would be available in a few days. On the 21st July they emailed me to say the books were ready to dispatch and I would have them in 2-5 days.

The books have still not arrived. I emailed them last Wednesday and have received no actual reply, just an automated one saying they received my message. I can't find a number to ring on the website and there order tracking page won't recognise my tracking number. What else can I do?

I'd rather give my money to an Irish retailer than to the likes of Amazon, however it doesn't look good for Easons if they can't deliver on time.

I've used kennys.ie many times and would recommend them. Their prices are on par with Amazon on many books too.

I'd rather support Irish retailers too but Easons, or Kenny's for that matter, just don't hack it for price or service. The only Irish bookshop that I buy from these days is Chapters in Parnell Street and pretty infrequently at that. Even Irish internet book dealers are, in the main, rip-off merchants and will go the way of the dinosaurs. Visit Abebooks.co.uk and search for a title and then search by location - the price differences are staggering.

I rang Easons this morning and they said the books were given to DHL on the 21st and according to DHL I signed for them on the 31st. They said they'll look into it but I think I can say goodbye to my money. I really don't understand why people insist on using DHL. Anything I've ever received from them has caused problems. It looks like Easons aren't at fault though.

I personally would prefer to pay a little extra to keep my business in Ireland, but I can see why many don't share my view given the current economic environment.

I also wouldn't call Irish retailers rip-off merchants. Unfortunately the big foreign online retailers have better economies of scale and lower overheads that allow them to offer cheaper prices.

You are aware that DHL receiver’s signature is captured digitally, right ?

The bottom line is that you didn't get what you paid for, let Easons do all chasing.

I had this problem with a bridesmaid dress last year. The dhl line were convinced I had signed for it but I was at work at the time. Turned out my wonderful neighbours at the time had signed my name to the parcel and taken it obviusly hoping id never look for it and yes the first thing I had done was call into the neighbours and ask had they seen it,-liars! Follow up, the dhl driver realised when he came back that he had delivered to the wrong house and I was reimbursed
