Windows 7 Startup Repair Loop

Hey guys, I'm hoping that someone on here can help me out! As the title says my PC is stuck in Startup Repair loop that I can't seem to get out of.

My laptop was working fine and dandy this morning. I put it in Sleep mode for about an hour and then turned it on only to find it couldn't set up. So it hit the power icon to turn it off manually and since then I've been in a loop. I turn it on and I'm asked to choose between Startup Repair and Start Windows Normally. If I choose the former, I'm told that Windows is preparing files before getting a cursor on black screen. Nothing else happens. If I choose the latter, Windows attempts to start and then I get taken back to where I started. There's no option given to boot in Safe Mode, and a spare retail CD of Windows 7 I have from a newer laptop doesn't seem to register.

I'd appreciate any suggestions! My laptop is a Toshiba, running Windows 7, about 200gb of data on the HDD, 4GB of RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor.

It worked, but when I tried to boot up in Safe Mode it prepared the system drivers then took me right back to Startup Repair.

Just re-read your first post,re the cd you need to set the bios to boot from the cd drive first.(hold down f2 and press the power button)

Thanks for your help so far! I tried to boot in Safe Mode again, which failed. I tried to get a copy of 7 I had on CD to work, after changing around the drive boot order in BIOS it just booted from CD then went right back to a black screen with a cursor, which is what I get whenever I tried to see the Startup Repair through.

    That didn't work either.

I had a similar problem but it was with Windows Vista, couldn't get out of the loop no matter what.

Turned out the hard drive was dying.

Get the Ubuntu live cd here #2) and boot from cd.

You can navigate to your hard drive and see the smart status, that will let you know if there's any errors on it. At least you can rule it out then or get a new hard drive and reinstall W7.

You might also be able to copy some important files from your hard drive to a usb stick in ubuntu if you need to.
