Gold for China, Silver for Holland and Belgium get bronze, GB are 4th. Ireland 5th. Disappointing.

Ireland 4th overall - points are awarded for all races and then added together

Looks like its down to the Boxers, and maybe the odd athlete now for an Irish Medal.

Well done though Annalise for getting this far.

Boxing is our only hope. We're rubbish at track and field.

    Orange pilled.

We already have a bronze at least.

Not sure which athlete could get a medal, none really id say, boxing is the only chance for a few medals.

I'm not liking the fact that Katie is fighting a British girl.

But, I don't why people pooh pooh that "we're only good at one thing". Lots of small countries or low population countries have their one or a few events at which they excel. I mean, look how Australia is lagging now that they haven't done as well as usual at swimming. And they'd generally be a much more sporty nation than us.

Maybe Derval? Prob not though since this is her 3rd Olympics and still hasn't got a medal

I have a feeling that katie will really need to hammer her on points if shes to progress, as if its tight, we could be on the end of a homer.

Yeah the Aussies have had a pretty poor games so far.

Then again, if they could run fast in the first place, they wouldnt be Australians.

Cian O Connor and the Polish guy in the Canoeing have a good chance to medal.

Ireland do near misses so well

after building up a huge lead with four straight wins - we watched that lead slowly being erased from race to race and deep down we all feared this would happen because it has happened so many times in the past to irish teams/individuals

we don't do leading very well

seems like she made the same mistake going downwind three times

the chinese, dutch and belgian (who was way back at one point) produced the goods when needed and finished 1,2 and 3 - they were the best sailors out there simply because they performed when it counted, Annalise made errors of judgement at the most crucial time and that's why she gets no medal - but she is young and hopefully she will have learned from this and come good in Rio

I don't know if it's an Irish thing or what but we seem to have issues performing under pressure, maybe the reason is simply because we so rarely put ourselves in a position to win where pressure exists and for that at least we should acknowledge how well Annalise has done so a very impressive, predictable and painful fourth it is

Seems like a bit of a crazy sport. She was in the medals all week and looking good then the last few mins of the final race, she just drops out and fookin China again winning gold.

Agreed, she's no chance. And she already has an excuse at the ready.

Equestrian is insanely unpredictable though. There is no way O'Connor will get a medal though imo. We'll finish with the 4. All in boxing

My Dad thinks we just lack focus, we have a "Ah shure, I'm just happy to be here" kind of attitude, no killer extinct. Except Sonia, who had it in spades.

I dont mean to be pessimistic but we live in Ireland not Dreamland! She's like the female version of TJ Kearns, she'll prob run a new National record without troubling the podium

Katie will win today, no doubt about it. And her opponent has only had a day's rest since fighting yesterday.

    Orange pilled.

We could get a gold or 2 though with Katie obviously and perhaps John joe. Lets be optimistic!
