Good morning everybody.

I purchased an iomega 2tb hard drive (worth 250 euro) from a company futurecomms.ie at the start of July. I have yet to receive my hard drive and the purchase has benn recognised on my visa account so the transaction has been recognised. I have attempted to contact the company by email and am still waiting for a reply. I cannot find a telephone number for the company and the website is currently inaccesible. I would appreciate if someone could give me advice on where to go from here and if anyone has had good/bad experience with futurecomms.ie in the past.

Get a refund on your credit card. Speak with your issuer.

Do a chargeback immediately as you can't contact the seller and their website is down which would possibly mean they have ceased trading.

What postage details did they give when you purchased; a lot of Asian sellers do 3-4 week delivery, which would mean that it mightn't be due to you until next week.

Thanks for the quick replies lads. There is no specification as to where the item is being shipped from, the postage amounts to 10 euro so I assume that the item is located within Ireland. Cancelling the order looks like the only option.

Its a Iomega drive, they ain't known for their value for money imho, its also likely external (always more expensive then internal)

The hard drive is external and can link up to the TV directly, hence the price. I appreciate the help lads, I have cancelled the order.

I'm a mino in comparison to what the lads in the PC building and upgrading forums know - give them a shout if you're looking for one of these they'll steer you to a really good deal.

Do a chargeback with your credit card, and then tell us what county you live in, if Dublin, we can tell you of a few bricks n mortar shops, or we can tell you places online, or online shops that allow you to pick up from them...

Thankfully I have cancelled the order, so that part is sorted. I currently live in Cork. May I ask what is the best option ye would suggest for a 2tb external hard drive that can also link up directly to the TV fro watching programmes, pictures, listen to music etc. I have also heard of devices that can link a standard hard drive up to a TV. Would this alternative be cheaper?

Mods, maybe split this and move it into the Home Entertainment section?

I have a WD TV box. The box itself plays movies, music, pictures, but has no harddrive (HDD). You can get ones with a HDD, but as I have enough space in the PC, I just got the box and a small 320GB HDD. The box has two USB ports, one which I have the 320GB connected to, and the other I sometimes plug a small USB key into if I want to play... pictures that a friend gave me.

The newer WD TV boxes have an ethernet port, so that you can link it to your home network, and stream Youtube, Netflix, etc, onto your TV.

I have one of the older boxes without the ethernet port, but it has the red/white/yellow connection for the older TV's, a HDMI output, and a S/PDIF audio connection (that's hooked up to my sound system).

There are other options. "Popcorn Hour" used to be (still is?) a popular choice.

What TV do you have? Is it DLNA compliant? Does it have a logo somewhere like this?

If so, I have this and it's great.

As for providers, I can highly recommend Elara, Komplett [there were issues a year or two ago with Komplett but they seem to have gone] and to a certain extent Amazon.
