-after applying a couple of coats of colour, can I apply clearcoat on top, or do i have to sand the colour coat with fine paper first?

Depends on the finish you want. If you want a show finish get use to sanding or if you just want to take the bad look off them sand, prime sand with water paper then paint and lacquer.

The more prep you put in the better the finish will be!

Plus you will do a diy job for 60-70 quid for all 4 wheels. Powdercoating was 80+ vat per rim (17') the last time I priced it

Got one wheel done.
Good result, but I'm not sure it suits my car!! any opinions? I can change the colour if needs be.

After sanding the rims free of corrosion:

They look well like this, but 2 of the wheels are badly rusted/corroded in the centre, so they need to be completely sanded down and sprayed.

After full sanding and 3 coats of primer:

No! I'm a novice..all halfords supplies..spray cans, letting dry naturally and with help of a hair dryer!

well done mate..I'm tempted to do it myself but I'm a lazy sod
They came out very well and it's a handy skill to be able to do it and show people that you can do it..you never know but a few of your mates etc might start asking you to do theirs

Cant remember the name but it was somewhere in dublin.

Looking good op. Black suits them.

Is there a need for clearcoat on matt black? Would that not put a shine on them and take away the matt finish?
