It's huge in Eastern Europe. Arena's are packed out for domestic leagues and there's even a Champions League tournament. Barcelona are pretty nifty at that too!

My expert opinion on handball that it is pretty much like tiki-taka. Pass it endlessly around the box and try and slip a sneaky through pass to a player in the box, or score with a quick counter-attack.

Not surprised Barca are good at it :D

after watching the BBC coverage i'm getting the distinct feeling that somebody has burst their bubble.

looking at the medals table i'm not surprised. they are currently standing a lowly 20th, behind such Olympic heavyweights as Kazakhstan, Lithuania & Georgia.

similar countries like France, Italy, Holland and Germany are showing 'em a clean pair of heels.

maybe the pressure/expectations of being the hosts is beginning to tell?

    any thoughts?

    I could express one!

Seriously though you must be a bit of ****-stirrer by instinct or just a bit dim. The schedule favours certain nations early doors - swimming/diving are always big one for Japan/China/USA/France and Australia so guess what tends to happen? They tend to win early. Some sports have long schedules with several rounds so it could be a week before the actual medals are handed out - sailing being the best example.

In Beijing GB won 47 medals, the 4th highest tally. If they get close to that they'll have had a very good games (the head coach wants 48+ naturally but then they always want more!). There are about 300 medals still to be decided. The table that matters is on the final day after the relay sprints not on day 4.

17-17, the strong serves are giving no hope for a break point.
    Great game to watch

Those Chinese gymnasts are amazing but i have seen bigger kids coming out of creches. They are bred to be gymnasts and have their growth stunted so it's a bit cruel.

The smallest one is something like 4'5" and 4.7 stone.

The groan of the chair umpire was classic. "17 all" Jo looking the more likely to break if anything!

i take your overall point. there's a long way to go and i expect them to climb the medals table as does everybody else.
but i still think that as the host nation they have had a very sluggish start.

as for your contention that Japan and France usually dominate diving & swimming!?? :o

No they haven't. The only medal they expected to get but didn't was Cavendish. Everything else is about par so far.

Watching the Womans Team Gymnastics. Looked like a very painful end to one of the Russian participants on the floor. Seemed to land badly just before her very last rotation. The pain on her face in the slo-mo of the last rotation was plain to see.

seen it, one of the British girls jumped high in the air and landed on the beam in the straddle position, out of bounds for some time.

Remarkable match. 21 games to 20 at the minute. That has to be an olympic record!

Could this be another Mahaut-Isner match?

    and Daley?
    LOL

The chinese were something like 1/4 favorites. They were only hoping for a bronze in that event

Come on Jo WIlly! here's your chance!

What a chance that groundstroke was!!!

    bronze is still a medal..

    LOL

What? They weren't expected to get gold. Bronze would have been fantastic in that event and only gold would have moved GB up the table anyway (GB are top of the teams with no gold as in the table 1 gold > infinite amounts of bronze and silver). So you'd have made the same silly comment even if they'd been a place higher and got bronze. LOL
