Vaio laptop hard-drive upgrade query

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E with the original Samsung 2'5" SATA 250gb HD installed.
I now have it full and it is running extremely slow.
I use the laptop for photo editing so I was looking at a 1tb drive.
Would a SATA 1tb drive be compatible with my laptop?
I currently have Vista installed but plan to install Win7 on the new HD.

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Joe

    In a word, yes.

But make sure it's 9.5 mm in height, some models have 12.5 mm and they will probably not fit.

On a side note, turn off "System Restore" if you haven't done so already to gain some extra gigabytes.

Also it might be an idea to buy an external drive(instead) to save your stuff on instead of the laptop itself.

Don't get too excited... if you're still using the stock operating system, Vista Home Premium 32-bit, with 4 GB RAM the OS will only use 3.12 GB. Not much of an improvement over the original 3 GB. If you want to take full advantage of your purchase, you'll have to upgrade to a 64-bit OS.
