looks promising for rheinisch considering some of the top 'paddlers' couldnt beat his score, hope he improves it in the second run.
    wheres that sailing on btw.?

BBC Red Button....no mention of what's going on with the Irish or the rest of the field....all about Brazil and G.B.

    Ireland 5th or 6th I think.

The second runs of the Canoe Slalom will be starting in 5 minutes.

Sailing finished up in 6th, leaving them in 2nd place after 2 Races.

    6th. Not too bad.

2nd overall behind Brazil. A good days work.

Notice at the gymnastics (on bbc3 at the mo) they've tried to solve the empty seats issue by filling them with army people! There's a massive block of Khaki along one side there. Ridiculous.
Not keen on the idea of camouflaged people at the Olympics, but they did seem to be handling the staffing of the security checks for us at the road cycling sensibly yesterday. Seeing as they have been roped in to help out at the last minute I'm perfectly happy for them to be given spare seats to actually see the events where they are available.

Eoin Rheinisch up next - not much improvement from those below him so far meaning that he is almost guaranteed a semi-final place regardless of how he goes here due to his good first run.

Rheinisch up next. He hasn't been overtaken yet, so the worst he can do is 16th.

Weaker time but he'll still go through.

Another good clean run, not quite as good as last time, but he'll be fine - back in action midweek.

    Rheinisch through. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,435 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

That's it with the Croatian messing up - Eoin is through.

The two consistent runs suggest he is a good bet to make the final, at least.

Rheinisch is definitely through to the semis.

Well yes, it's better that somebody gets to use the seats rather than them sitting empty. Still doesn't resolve the issue as to why they're empty though.
EuroSport had a great angled shot of the arena earlier that showed just how packed the upper tiers were. Stories about Irish Swimmers families being "locked out" of the arena this morning and yesterday too.

China just through to the final of the women's archery. Almost lost it with 3 dodgy arrows, but got there in the end. Will be interesting to see how they do considering one of the team member's confidence must be shaken.

Gary O'Toole being in london isn't working. He's our best analyst by a counttry mile and should be in base camp with Bill or whoever.

instead he's relying on the satleite link that leaves things cold and sterile.

Bree is woeful with the other fella not far behind...:(

Naive is a very kind spin on the gabling issue. To bet on an opponent to beat you is very dishinest...

There was an article earlier with all the big sponsors claiming that their tickets were being used . But chatting with someone who works for a non sponsor sports brand and they apparently bought up loads of tickets that the company now cannot get rid of them to the various departments internally that they were hoping to expense them to.

    Well done Eoin...:)

I suppose you can spin it either way. He bet on the winner of the event in 2008, knowing full well that he himself had no chance of being competitive and would not even make the medal race. The way it was initially put out there was suggesting that someone in a one-on-one sport (e.g. boxing) directly threw a match. This is very different to that.

The standard has improved in the second round of the Kayak event. Rheinisch down to 11th with one more person to go, so he will end up ranked 11th or 12th of 15 qualifiers going into the semi-finals.

    Edit: Eoin finishes 12th.

Agreed. The way they made it sound originally was that someone was betting against themselves, ie. match fixing.
This just sounds like someone being stupid.

Never thought I could like archery so much.

Another great archery contest....rain pouring down on them too. Halfway point it's tied in gold medal match.

That Eurovision website is very annoying.

They don't tell you which event is being streamed on each channel, so you have to click on them all to find out what is on offer. And you have to watch the same irritating 30 second advert each time you go to a new channel.

Yeah it's a bit annoying but worth it if you find what you're looking for.

I agree with both Skid and Elmo re the Eurovision link. I'd rather have it available than not...:)
