Using pre-set sequences in tracks

    Hi lads

just wondering what the opinions/general consensus are on using pre-made sequences from VSTs in original tracks.

I was putting an electronic track together which is coming along nicely and flutin around with some of the preset sequences in one of my VSTs and this particular one just fitted perfectly. Its just a 3 sec clip that I repeat over on over in some parts of the tune.

But I'd feel a small bit weird about releasing it as is cuz It's not mine as such. Obviously I can put together a clone myself so its not a carbon copy, which I might do.

I realise some amazing tracks/albums have been put together over the years using nothing but samples etc and its been going on for donkeys but just wondering what you view is on stuff like this.

Would it be frowned upon to use a preset VST sequence? Seen as a cop out? Or is the most important thing, creatively, finding the perfect sounds and putting them together?

I don't do anything like this personally but I always thought that if you bought a product that you could use its sequences for commercial use.

If it is a free VSTi then I would think it would mention something in the documentation that supports it, maybe a mention of where it came from in the credits.

    that's what i figured

having thought more about it there's no way i'd use it as is. Even if it is only a couple of secs long. That said I wouldn't look down on somebody else if they did it and it was well placed.

It'll be more fun coming up with something of a similar vibe but organic anyway.

    Is it just an arp?

If it's just an arp sequence don't even worry about it.

no its not as generic as a regular aul arp. its a 3 second synth riff, which i have looped in various sections. anyone who was familiar with the VST and had browsed through it would know it immediately. just like samples, it still means you have to be reasonably creative with where u place it but still i wouldn't be comfy with it
