Walcott is very inconsistent though, if i just wanted pace id stick a greyhound on the right wing.

Pace and assists and goals...and a huge amount of experience for a 23 year old. I'd consider him a young Maxi, who everyone is waxing lyrical about now, but he was also inconsistant and could be frustrating...

I think people need to calm down. The club can't genuinely be in for all the players linked over the last few weeks.

On Andy Carroll, I wouldn't put anything past his agent. IMO he's not to be trusted and I would think he will be interested in another pay day via a transfer. Don't rule out West Ham with his buddy the manager there.

It does seem like Rodgers has done a good job in drumming up interest in him. A loan move to Newcastle would be fcukin stupid though. They already know all about him and they can either afford him or not.

To say we are light up front is an understatement. I suspect we may see a lone striker being played with players either side, such as Stevie, Cole and Dani.

Nice depth to defence though, without Coates - some good young full backs in the mix.

My team for the first game -

    Jones
    Flanagan-Skrtel(c)-Wisdom-Enrique
    Spearing
    ---Aquilani
    Adam
    Shelvey--
    Pacheco

    Morgan

It's a throw-away result, will be about using the players who are freshest and have been back longest, and giving some kids a chance. The last of depth in attack means Morgan gets a shot...

We have got to play the 433 that Rodgers will likely favour come the start of the season.Sterling and Ibe will likely get a chance in those roles out wide

Does anyone think Newcastle would have made any offer for Andy Carroll without sounding him or those close to him out?

The wheels are in motion. I'd be surprised if Carroll is a Liverpool player when the window closes, whether he ends up at Newcastle or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

I wouldnt say much sounding out would be needed, it's the only club he'd go back to without being too tormented by it. And he didn't really burn any bridges there.

If they can come up with the cash, then maybe. But it has to work for US...

Borini has already been signed and it's blatantly clear that Dempsey is currently being pursued by us.

I am tired of repeating myself on Carroll, but when the manager is publicly quoted at pimping out Carroll to a club for the forthcoming season, then it should be blatantly obvious that he doesn't figure in his plans.

I know we paid a ridiculous amount of money for Carroll, but it's time we accept that we will never get anywhere near that amount of money back. Not now, not ever.

Has he, where are these quotes? I only saw the interview that Spearing and Lucas were also involved in.

I think Liverpool could have put this story to bed two a week ago after the press conference if there was absolutely nothing to it but it has spiralled since which makes me think they are looking to sell.

As mentioned previously, if we are going to sell then a player plus cash might be the best option.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he would consider letting striker Andy Carroll go out on loan.

The 23-year-old England international has struggled to meet expectations since joining the club from Newcastle for a club record £35m in January 2011.
"It's something I would have to look at, I have to be honest," said Rodgers.

I was thinking that, but I think both seem to work better as out and out wingers, running from deep, whereas the front 3 would need to be making runs in behind and collecting the ball from the central 3 more.

    But in that case -

    ---Aquilani---Shelvey---Adam---
    ---Sterling---Morgan----Dani----

    Sorry Jay.

Shelvey is a natural leader, and best in the middle. But this formation means that AA and CA will need to work hard and cover the wings when the advanced players are forward...

Aye, they do seem to be alright.

That squad list is worryingly light up top though. We need another striker as it is - without going and selling Carroll.

I am nearly certain that that is from the same interview that I watched.

I would suggest watching the interview as it is nowhere near as clear cut as that article or you would have us believe.

He essentially said that about all players and was constantly pushed on Carroll. He clarified what he said further but as they were questioning him about Carroll, they were able to attribute those quotes to Carroll's situation.

Newcastle offered to pay part of striker Carroll's £80,000-a-week wages, with a view to a permanent deal at a specified price next summer.

But the terms fall some way short of Liverpool's expectations.

The Anfield club rejected the initial offer on Sunday night and Liverpool's preference is a sale, rather than to loan out the 23-year-old.

34 players to traipse around the NE of the states/Toronto for just three games? Seems rather bloated.

And if BR didn't bring all the available players there would be cries of him not giving certain players a chance. Damned if you do....

Given that each game will most likely see a different XI in each half, I would expect all 34 players to get some game time over the three games.

I'd imagine Carroll will most likely be sold. I reckon if Liverpool get £18 million from Newcastle then he'll be gone

That'll be useful! Seriously though its very hard to know what Rodgers could take from that kind of approach, at best he might see more of value regarding players character rather than football skills for many of the named.

Yep, and rightly so. That would be a good price for him, forgetting what we paid, which remember was a result of what we got for Torres. If we had sold Torres for £35M and bought Carroll for £20M, would we be quite so bothered?

I think Rodgers could do a lot with £18M (cough HUNTELAAR cough)

Plenty of youngsters in the squad heading to the US:

Carroll to Newcastle... Haha. Sure why not. Would be funny. He'd be warming the bench mind. ;)

Probably still on holiday after the Euros.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I would accept Tiote and Cabaye as payment for England International Andy Carroll. :)

It is a bit strange that suso is going on the tour concidering the u19s championship just finished yesterday. Maybe its a sign that BR wants him in and around the 1st team as soon as possible.

The Walcott link could easily be his agent stirring it up to get a good contract from Arsenal

I could be wrong but don't agents only stir **** up to get there client out of a club.

For example if there was real interest from LFC, Arsenal would know about it.
I doubt the club listen to tabloid/twitter rumours.
