IMO, if you want to get through it quickly or try it with friends, then give Sven Co-op a go. Allows you to play through the game as a co-operative. Kind of better though if you've played single player at least once. Unless you're playing it with friends, the people online will fly through it.

HL1: Source is pretty ****. They used the same textures and the only significant difference is the source engine physics and perhaps some lighting. You'd actually be better off with high resolution texture mods and the original.

It's free with the pack, and it's already downloaded? Is it really worth downloading the original instead? I have a few HD mods lined up...

If you have HD mods on top of HL:S, then I'm sure that's okay.

HL1 + mods > HLS

But HLS with mods is probably just as good. It was a half arsed release from Valve. That's why we're waiting for Black Mesa Source (blackmesasource.com) for release where a mod team have completely redesigned it for the source engine and it looks like they've done a good job of it. Release date was supposed to be 3 years ago but they wanted to do a better job than what they had. Release shouldn't be too far away now. Still a few months, of course, but it's not a dead mod.

Well, spend most of today putting new PC together. Unfortunately realised I'm a Sata cable short.

Got 2 with the Asrock Extreme4 mobo, which done just fine for the hdd & ssd.
Then realised because I bought the non-retail (or bare) DVD model, I didn't get any cables with it

Can I pick one of these up easily enough in any electronic shop?

Edit : oh btw, when connecting the seagate HDD, I noticed that after the sata & sata power connections, theres another socket with 4 small pins; should I just ignore this?

Peats would probably be your best bet, or one of those computer repair shops. Can't think of many other places that would stock them.

A DVD drive isn't really that important these days anyway. If you need to install windows from a DVD, just plug in the SSD and the DVD drive, then switch the cable from the DVD to the HDD when you are done.

lol I payed something over the odds a for a vga female/dvi male adaptor from maplin a few years ago. Yeah, generally don't buy anything from them. Was in there a few years ago & they had old outdated video cards at premium prices :rolleyes:

True I think both survive on impulse purchases and 'oh naff it I forgot to buy...' these days.

There's a lad on Caple street near both Peats and Maplin that sells computer bits out of a ramshackle shop. Normally has decent prices.

Pretty sure I ordered an extra SATA cable. If you're around Dublin I'd be happy to give it to you. As soon as the order arrives that is.

Anyone seen the Sugo SG05/06 lately? Can't seem to find it anymore

mITX case selection has been royally crap lately, what with Fractal making theirs a dedicated server/NAS box :mad: The only gaming one I can find is the BitFenix one, and it weighs more than many full-towers :eek:

Well, I made sure everything was connected, & turned on pc today. The Asrock splash screen appears briefly (using a Z77 Extreme4), then the standard black screen shoing bios date, the mobo type, cpu type & speed & total ram, followed by :

"UEFI Defaults have been loaded.
Press F2 or DEL to Run Setup
Press F1 to continue"

Obviously I'm posting this as f2, del, or f1 don't seem to do anything.
I checked out the Dr. Debug Led display on the motherboard & I get the code A2 - which according the manual means 'IDE Detect'. Pretty strange since I don't have any IDE devices to the best of my knowledge.

The only Sata drives I have connected are the SSD & DVD drive, & I checked they're both securly connected.

Any ideas?

Scan.co.uk have the sg05/06 with both the 300 and 450 watt.
Speaking of fractal design, their new itx case looks pretty interesting.

Is your keyboard in properly? I'd google the problem as well to see if anyone else has had trouble with it.

I did google it, could be a problem with GPU, as in not connected fully, but then someone said you wouldn't get the asrock splash screen if that were the case.
I may need to remove the gpu however, until BIOS is updated according to someone else.
lol gonna have to plug in my old monitor to mobo though, since the new one only has display port & hdmi connectors :rolleyes:

Solitaire, Caseking.de carry a decent stock of Silverstone cases inc. Sugo's. You should consider the FT03 mini, beaut of a case & will fit a GTX680 easily. I'm trying to convince the war office she needs a desktop do I can do a build with one.:)

Try clearing the CMOS (don't forget to disconnect from mains before doing it!)

Ahhh now I get it! When I had my 4870s in xfire I didn't put in the correct high-tech cooling solution!

I dont want anyone else to make the same mistake.

The Z77 extreme 4 has a clear cmos button on the rear panel, still having the same problems though. (I haven't tried removing & replacing battery btw)

I've already tried disconnecting dvd, disconnecting ssd and just having 1 sata connection to the hdd, but still get stuck on same screen & A2 debug code.

Well looks like I got sent a dud as I feared, was hard enough fitting the heatsink on & now I'll have to go through it all again. :mad:

^^ That is actually genius , on my 3870 x2 in crossfire I sellotaped an 80 mm fan over the fan for doubling cooling and it actually worked wonders for temps .
