Day Z Performance

    Hi
    Just got a new PC:
    i5
    geforce gtx 670 OC
    8 gigs of ram

and I'm only getting around 30fps on day Z!
Currently I have the settings on very high + max draw distance, because it doesn't make any difference if i set it very high medium, or low, so I may as well enjoy the visuals.
I would have expected at least 60fps from a 3 year old game. Does anyone have any config tweaks I could use?
    Thanks.

Mission dictates view distance not your settings, Dayz is set at around 1000 so noone can have an advantage.

With your PC set everything to Max and turn off Post Processing, you can install a mod called octoblur to fix the post processing but may get kicked from Dayz servers.

So turning off post processing or setting it to low will help, also dont use default in the video memory setting pick what you have.

and in your shortcut or launcher use -cpucount 2

Thanks for the reply, I will turn off post processing, but i use an app called six updater to launch the game so the -cpucount 2 isn't going to work unless i get rid of the launcher.

fairly sure that has startup options somewhere in it, dont use it as its overly complicated.

    i use http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241

Thanks Dreamer, finally found the start up parameters in six updater, which added another 10fps. Still not what I expected to get but definitely a big improvement!

You 100% set the vram option to default for cards with more than 512mb ram.

    Launcher options are:

    -nosplash -noPause -world=empty -skipIntro -maxMem=2047 -maxVRAM=2047 -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7

TBH, My specs are a bit lower.

    Intel Q8200
    4Gb Ram
    ATI 6770

But regardless of Resolution, I get ~30fps. So I run it on 1920x1080 (matches my TV) and turn off post processing, shadows and run the rest on Normal.

If I turn the resolution down to say 1280x768, I only get a boost of about 1fps.

I think you can just optimise it to be more consistent as you play. But it seems you aren't going to see a drastic boost in fps. (At least from what I've seen and read)

Arma is more HD and CPU intensive than GPU.

    Video memory setting helps.

normally i play at 10,000 view distance everything but post processing maxed out. Mainly because ocktoblur is better than in game PP but its unsupportedby Dayz so i have disable that.

Well, I have DayZ run off a ramdisk and Arma running off a raid 0.

If I ever get around to building a new PC, I'll get my SSD on.

But I don't have a problem with it's current performance.

I was getting 30/40 fps, turned off anti aliasing and it shot up to 60/80, also set the cpucount to 2.

i have an i7 ssd 16g ram decent graphics card, and i cant even run arma 1 at full settings and get 60fps

dont try for max settings and you will be fine, arma does not take advantage of recent graphics optimisations even when they release a new game its still a bit behind in tech

    My SPecs, Laptop DV7-6052ea

    2Ghz 2630 i7
    ATI6490 1GB
    6gb DDR3.
5400k SATA HDD. (I think this is my slowest ship)
I am using a Ramdisk type software, Fancy Cache, but I dont think it makes much difference.

gettin 5-20fps at 1600x900 with everything off.(even FXAA)
Not much difference in dropping the res to 1366x700

Win 7, so Im considering installing WinXP and using this to play according to this guide it would run better.

if u turn some stuff off, it defaults to the cpu, instead of making use of your graphics card.

8 CPU Cores, will it use them all? -cpuCount=8 Will that switch help?

I don't think so, any more than 4 is probably a waste.

here's my bat file for running:

    "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -nosplash -nopause -skipintro "-maxmem=2047" "-cpucount=2" "-name=paul" "-mod=c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;expansion;expansion\beta;expansion\beta\expansion;F:\@DayZ"

maybe its the 1.62 patch or maybe it was your two switches i added, but the fps seems to have stabilised at 20-26fps.

I might try doing some tests. meh, Thanks for the tips all the same.

Disable Dayz go to Singleplayer Scenario 03 benchmark.

Mine is between 80 and 90 fps currently since the last update, my settings are in an earlier post and I just have AA and post processing turned off, everything else is set to the highest.

They are really making strides as far as fixing performance issues goes.

How do you check how much fps you're getting? I would guess mine is around 40 - 50 on medium settings since it always feels really smooth.

If you have Mumble or Fraps running you can enable the FPS overlay.

Don't know if Steam has one.

I've got boot camp on my mac book pro im thinking of installing windows and arma2 etc in order to play, Dayz
I'm not sure about minimum requirements and I'm just wondering if you could tell me weather

    2.53 GHz intel core duo
    4 gigs of ram
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256
Is enough to power the game ?
