I recently bought an Amstrad DRX890 Sky HD Box for my Dad for FTA channels

Can someone confirm for me if he will receive BBC One HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD & Channel 4 HD on the EPG without any card

I don't want to get his hopes up before I give it to him

    Thanks

Unlikely I think. When the newer versions of Sky boxes are booted up they will display the Irish EPG. I dont know what model numbers work this way but if its a second hand box maybe ask the seller if they can get the channels without a card.

The cards aren't expensive in any event.

you will be able to watch them, however you will have to add itv and ch4 to other channels.

It depends where you bought the box (UK or ROI) and whether it was previously paired with a UK or Irish card

Sorry I should have mentioned, I bought it second hand on Adverts, so it was paired with an Irish sub

Looks like I'll need a FTV card

    Thanks for the replies

Sky boxes aren't paired with cards, unless those cards have premium channel subscriptions - e.g. sports and movies.

You don't need an FTV card to get the channels you want.

There are plenty of threads in this forum dealing with how to revert the box to list the British channels instead of the Irish ones.

You're wrong. This does not apply to the HD box that we are discussing

Apologies - did not intend to mislead.

I'll retreat back to the Foreign Satellite forum then......
