Can Sky use an alternative to Astral 2 satellite as the house has a clear view to the west but not to the east (trees).

    Thanks.

Sky is only on the 28 east satellites. Some of the UK channels have backups for terrestrial transmitters at 27.5 west, but they're not for DTH use.

Btw, 91 west is way below the horizon in this part of the world, where did you get that from?

See what you mean about below the horizon! So is there any alternative at all for me here in south Mayo? The tree line will block any signal eastwards....Thanks.

No alternative to Astra 2/Eutelsat 28A.

You mean Sky for the UK, Peter :)

    There is
    Sky Italia, (Italy)
    Sky Deutschland, (Germany)
    Sky México,
    Sky Central America
    Sky Dominican Republic
    Sky Pacific,
    Sky Brasil (Brazil)

Some of these were only part owned by "Sky" (none by UK Sky) and are now owned by DirecTV

Sky/Rupert Murdoch/News Corporation also has satellite channels and platforms in at least India, NZ, Australia and USA too.

The 91W is "Bell Satellite TV" pay TV only and ONLY can be received in Canada (likely not all of Canada either)! Possibly with "exported" subscriptions in parts of USA unofficially. It appears to be nothing whatsoever to do with Sky/News Corp, but who knows.

You can of course use a Sky Italia (13E) or Sky Deutschland (19E) box here, with a suitable dish and an address in Germany or Italy. It's not remotely the same "Sky" was we get, even allowing for lack of English. The other "skys" are generally impossible (unless there is a C band Brazil service, but you'd need a 4.8m dish...)

You're giving up very easily. The $ky sats sre 28-29 degrees east of south. That puts them at south-east, or roughly 5.00 o'clock on the dial. Is there any way at all that you could squeeze a signal in by trimming/cutting the trees. Your other option would be to get UPC. They have strong mmds signals in Galway/Mayo region and their prices are competitive vs $ky.

MMDS will close inside 2 years

If you manage to get a late-ish morning where the sun is out (not easy at the moment to be fair!) look to see where the sun is at around 11.25-11.30am IST as the sun will be in roughly the same spot as the Astra/Eutelsat 28 degree group of satellites.

Have you had a professional installer confirm there is no possibility? The signal arrives at a high angle so even nearby trees may not block the signal.

As mentioned already the signal arrives from the South East, not the East.

Put your exact address into this website and select 28.2
    http://www.dishpointer.com

This will show the exact angle for your property.

Sure it's in stone, in a locked drawer in Comreg. UPC OF COURSE will say nothing till Comreg publicly publish a date. Why would UPC want to give customers to Sky 2 years early?

Hotbird isn't much good for UK TV or Sky Sports.

Actually unless you want Sky Sports, Sky is a bit of a waste of money. Freesat + Irish TV gives over 90% of viewing of Pay TV customers!

not quite true watty, discovery channel, national geographic, dave, these are the reason i am hesitating about going freesat and leaving upc which is the same as sky basic package

Lots of repeats. Buying sets of DVDs is cheaper than Sky sub!

    Thanks.
OP. Another option is to locate the dish on a pole or structure at a point where it has a view over the trees and bury the cable run to the house.

Hallo everyone, just an update on this subject. In the end I set up my Saorview Box and also connected a WDTV Live box , to pick up Beeb iplayer and Netflix, via the internet. This has worked out reasonably well, so far. but not getting the UK channels live is sadly missed. What are UPC offering now in Mayo? Thanks for all your advice.
