    Howdy,

I'm looking at buying Arma 2 + OA directly from the Bohemia website. I see that there are two options (Steam and other version) - Is there any advantage of choosing one over the other?

(I do have Steam installed already for other games)

    Thanks

i prefer buying my game through steam as its there ready to install whenever i want and most of all without the hassle of cds. Buying it though direct dl elsewhere just has its headaches of what passemail was used for that site etc.

The one you buy from the Bohemia website activates through Steam, so the only difference is that Bohemia get all of the money.

well wasn't aware of that. Doesn't work for a lot of games.

When there is a patch for OA, steam downloads the entire game again. Pain in the ass tbh.

Are you sure about this? As there are two options on the site, the one I have in my shopping basket on the site at the moment says 'Non-Steam version'....Both are €18.74

So going for the Non-Steam version is the better choice then? Is that pretty much the only difference between choosing one over the other?

    Thanks

Ah b*llox, I bought the two Steam versions last night from the Bohemia website. Does there be many patches for OA at this stage?

On another note, going to play this later for the first time. I realise that there is a pretty steep learning curve but what sort of FPS skills are required to play it competently? I think the last FPS I played on PC was CSS. :o

    1.7.2 is interesting

Zombies have a fairly unsubstantial boost to their eye sight. Creeping around the place and being all stealthy is no longer the way to go. Best to just run in there and then find a way to lose them.

Hey guys, just got Dayz Mod all loaded up and ready to go - is it possible to get the password for the boards.ie server? Is there somebody I need to pm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭Genghiz Cohen

    Boards isn't passworded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,428 ✭✭✭Quandary

what's the name of the server on which all the boards people are playing, or does it vary?

I can find a server called boards.ie but it requires a password!

put boards in the filter and set the mission to DayZ and you will find it.
    Its definitely not passworded.

I think I am a few versions too far ahead - version 1.60.93965 is coming up in red and there is a red X coming up to the left of the boards server name...

ill try a few other servers to see if i can get in for a taste!

yeah, theres 2 boards servers on the list, one is passworded (Donno what it is). The other isn't (And usually has 30+ people on it).

1.60.94444 is the latest version isn't it?
    Is boards running that?
If so you'll need to download and install this then find the beta .exe (somewhere in the Arma2 OA > Beta folder or some such) and add the "mod=@DayZ" to it.

Evolution server is passworded change your mission to Dayz in the filter.

Last official patch was 9/12/2011 for Arrowhead. Been 132 beta patches since of which you only need the latest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

IE1 Boards.ie is the Dayz Server.
Boards evolution is the passworded one, not running Dayz.

94700 is the latest beta (as of last night) best to have the latest all the time.

Thought that one ran out of money since the German server took over.

So nothing has changed then, I've been doing that since my first time dying.
On the + side I was looking out the window and a zed standing inches away and although he seemed a bit put out, he didn't enter the house looks like they fixed the x-ray vision thing.

I still suspect that height doesn't make any difference, whenever I'm on the town hall roof and there's a zombie nearby, They spot me instantly, good job they can't climb the drains.

    In Cherno?
Totally can, just takes them a while.

Those bastards can climb most things, it just takes the path-finding time to figure it out.

I thought I was safe on a roof before because they were taking their time when suddenly I had about 9 or 10 zombies come up the drain at the same time in one big clump. At least 3 of them fell to their deaths :pac:
