My 1.9 SDI died this morning, 220k mls on the clock, should i get an engine for it? The rest of the car is grand, and i have already tracked down an engine....but is it worth the hassle?

    Quistion...

Im wondering, why a set of bucket seats is an n.c.t fail. Im reffering to the bucket seats that are not able to move about and go back and forward, but are fixed in the one position. Even though there fixed in the one position should they not be a pass in a two seater car/van . As I dont see why they should be able to move about in a two seater car/van, as there is no back seat passengers.

Also a racing harness and a set of bucket seats together are safer then a set of standard seats and seat belts? Id imagine that together, the bucket seats and the harness would give you less room to move about in the event of a crash?

So why is it an N.C.T fail if there safer?

Because, although they may be good quality seats and harnesses and may well be safer, they are not designed by the manufacturer for road use.

You note that any aftermarket fixed bucket seats and harnesses are labled as 'for off road use only' or 'for motorsport use only'.

The flip side is that there are many fake versions of major brand seats going around and these are outright dangerous in an accident.

Ah right, but if the proper brand is safe in a track car, how come there not safe in a standard car for road use. As youd be doing higher speeds on a track then on a road.

Its simply due to the fact that they aren't certified/tested for road use IMO, not how safe/strong they actually are.

Safer on a track and safer on a road car are two very different things. I'm going to assume you've never been in a track car, but trust me with a harness on properly it's not safe for road use in any way or form. It severely limits your movement so things such as checking your blind spots become impossible.

Also if safety harnesses are not installed properly, they can actually do more damage than good. Before reaching the bucket seat the harness usually passes over a horizontal bar behind the seats at shoulder level (usually part of the roll cage) - in the case of an actual crash, the force exerted on the harness gets transferred to this bar and the cage. If this is not done, the force gets exerted onto your shoulders/back area and could lead to severe permanent damage.

Also in the case of a roll cage - they are also more dangerous on road than on track. On a track you're almost always going to have a helmet on. If you even try get into a race car with a full cage you'll hit your head about 5 times just getting into the seat, and that's before you start on the track at all. With a big helmet on, it's not a big deal if you happen to tap off the cage - without one it could cause more damage than if it wasn't there at all.
Ah right, but if the proper brand is safe in a track car, how come there not safe in a standard car for road use. As youd be doing higher speeds on a track then on a road.

You'd actually be surprised by how "slow" some tracks can be. Doing 120km/h on a motorway would be much faster than any bendy track, unless you're in a F1 car.

Bubble wrap, the ability of the seat to move forward and back has nothing to do with the comfort of the passengers in the back. It's about getting yourself -the driver- into a comfortable and safe driving position.
You are starting out driving now, and here's some free advice. If you find yourself going somewhere with your mates and they want you to roll your seat forward do they have some more room, throw them out of the car on the spot!

Because you shouldn't be putting yourself in an uncomfortable driving position because your mate feels a bit cramped.
    You're better of being safe.

AW right. When I driving, my rules. Everyone of my mates knows that the driver. ie , me. Gets to choose the the following, radio station, topic of discussion, etc. Even if a mate of mine was uncomfortable, Id most likely move back the seat. :pac: But I hate having it forward, hate it. Its either in the middle or towards the back.

A little bit slower but so much more fun than driving on a motorway!
