Elisabeth Sladen hasn't been mentioned yet. Very sad and unexpected. Although other Dr Who actors and actresses have also died recently, she was very much an active part of the show still so it resonated with old and new fans alike

IMO more people mourned her death than will mourn some of the actors who have played the Doctor when they die. She epitomised the show for many people

I remember being a bit upset when Dermot Morgan died as I was a huge Fr. Ted fan, and still am.
    Gary Speed also.

Dermot Morgan - I'm a huge Fr Ted fan and was gutted when he passed away.

I couldn't believe the amount of ignorant fools I came across that basically said it was karma for making fun of the church. I do realise the irony of that statement btw.

church was made up to give people an extra conscience, if people cant see that i dunno, cancer, tsunami, earthquakes, murder, yea if god really created the earth he would have wanted people to die horrible deaths

Dimebag Darrell probably, although my brother was more upset than I due to his age and me being quite younger than he was, he lived with Dimebag's music longer than I of course. The circumstances were just sickening as well, hard to get your head around something like that.

I initially thought that Christopher Hitchens' imminent death would have hit me a bit harder than it actually did. I loved his writing and public speaking, in my opinion he was one of the best social commentators of modern times, he was just so very hard hitting and straight to the point, he displayed great knowledge too, but inspite of his direct debating style he showed off a marvellous use of language and was one of the most articulate speakers there was.
It was likely that due to the imminent nature of his death I handled it as well as the passing of bad news, even if I was such a big fan. Him being sick for the best part of 18 months prepares you for what will be very disappointing news, and having seen videos of him looking rather worse for wear just a month previous at that convention in Texas prepared you moreso.

I've never been moved to tears by a famous persons death and I suppose I can only talk about people within my lifetime, but I found the deaths of people like Steve Irwin and Amy Winehouse sad, as I was and still am admirers of their work.

I suppose one of the most upsetting for me though was the death of Michael Jackson. He was an icon that I remember as being the most famous man in the world since I was a child, his music spanned generations and he was one of those people who only comes along once in a generation, our Elvis I suppose. It also saddens me that his life became what it did after everything that went before. That made his death a little bit more troubling, knowing that that was the end of his story.

Bill Hicks & Hunter S. Thompson were also moments where I felt sad for the loss of a stranger. I suppose I have battled my own demons my whole life and really identified with their dark humour and outlook on life.

Also, Gadafis death affected me in the sense that it really just hit a chord with me about the state of humanity. I don't know if people know much about him / it, but I get the impression that a lot of people put him in the same bracket as Sadam Hussain, but the truth is that he was not in any way an evil man, just someone that the powers that be didn't want around and tried to get rid of for decades as he wouldn't co-operate with their agenda, and the lack of questions asked in the media and public in general, the acceptance that it was ok to bomb and destroy a soverign nation and army from the air, arm the civilians and send them in to the desolate bomb sites and then call it a revolution just bothers me...

Freddie Mercury, cried the night I heard of his death. One of the most talented people on earth.

Christopher Hitchens. As far as his razor sharp writing is concerned there isn`t anyone even remotely close to his level.

Bruce Forsyth, I remember Ray Darcy on TodayFM talking about his passing around 2007. Hence, I was a little shocked to see him on strictly come dancing last year!

Never really got upset over a celebrity death, but probably the biggest "aah f*ck, that just seems so unfair" moment was when i heard that Charlotte Coleman had died of a massive asthma attack. Wasn't a huge fan in any sense of the word, but i think it was the manner of the death more than anything (i can only imagine it is a horiffic way to die)

The one that really got me was Mike Murphy. I remember when my girlfriends Mam told me he was dead, I was so upset.
Didn't last long though. Saw him on a live TV show 2 days later. Turns out she had somehow convinced herself that he was dead. She still doesn't really believe he's alive

Some people have their own connections to people for whatever reason. It may not mean anything to you but it can to them.
Care about your family and friends.

They are the people who will miss you when gone.

I do care about my family and friends. But personally I was affected when Adam Yauch died from the same cancer that I had had and I think that's a valid reason to be upset

Bit of a pointless post really.
The thread is in AH, it's hardly the most serious forum and it's not like peoplle are saying "Oh I cried for weeks when Princess Diana died. Didn't even go to the funeral when my Granny passed though. The bitch"

The only time I have been shook by a death of a celebrity/ famous person was Amy winehouse.

It wasnt a huge surprise , but her music did something to me.

I was due to see her a week after her death in Austria :-(

No well known person has ever upset me because of their death. If they happened to be a family member, then I would be.

Lots of people have some very strong connection to people who they grew up watching, or listening to/reading about. Not me.
