    Hi,

Is there any issues sharing a satellite dish with the neighbour. I just had an installer that there is due to phase currents. When I rang Sky they told me there isn't and that it is common practise?

    Thanks,
    Seán.

It's a common practice but the installer is correct.

The two houses should have a common earth before you do this.

Yes you should not share with a neighbour. From an electrical point of view it could be dangerous.

Sky should not have told you this. You are effectively joining the earth of the two houses together. It is bad practice, potentially dangerous (pun there I know) and illegal.
If a dish is shared between more than one dwelling special distribution and grounding arrangements are needed.
Was it you I was speaking to on the phone?

Sky phone people are not electricians. I'd hazard a guess that most of their staff would struggle with wiring a plug.

Sky would sell their granny to get a subscription either way.

They wont be there to pick up the pieces if your house goes on fire etc.

Your house insurance would possible be invalid also.

Common practice eh.... ask for that in writing. :)
