Ok so played for two hours or so last night, the controls and UI are a bit weird but I can get used to that.

Anyway long story short, I spent my entire time getting chased and killed by Z's. Even when crouching, anytime I went near a building to loot for weapons etc. I got spotted and ended up running away as I had nothing to defend myself.

Finally I managed to find a barn but as I was about to go in, again I got spotted. Seen an enfield on the ground and managed to pick it up but at that stage I was swamped. Done a legger but got overrun and died again....

Game is seriously tough and I haven't even seen another player yet!!! :o

Are you crouch walking? If you are then you should crawl and remember, zombies can see, so let them pass by you and then move out behind them.

If you get spotted, sprint, double tap W and hold it. You need to find a building with 2 doors, red brick houses and supermarkets in towns are good for this and long grey wooden barns are good in the wilderness.
Run in, wait for Zed to start coming in, then run out the other door and break line of sight you should lose a few.
Trees will also help you to lose the rest.

Break line of sight as often as possible.

Wait I'm confused...... Does this mean we can't play on the servers ?

You can play on private servers, i've found a nice one thats usually near full. Its not connected to the main dayz server so you start with a new character etc.

I've been crouch running I think? Should I just be avoiding the large towns for now? I always seem to get overrun in them.

The game takes alot of patience, I think that would be easier to handle if playing with someone but when alone I get inpatient and end up trying to rush.

I didn't realise you can get away from Z's, after dying 4 or 5 times to them anytime I aggro'd more than 2 I just killed myself. Will try break line of sight in future. Thanks for the tips!

Edit: Quick question, life would be alot easier with a weapon and a decent amount of ammo. Where's the easiest places to pick one up without too much of a threat?

Best bet is to stay out of the big towns until you get some weapons (And even then... try not to shoot unless you have to, because you'll attract loads of zombays !). Just look for open barns and ****, i got myself a sniper rifle earlier but died before i got a chance to snipe some survivors... sucks.

Learn to spot the industrial areas, factories and such will have hatchets and crowbars. Barns, found outside towns will also have them.

You won't find too many 'large' guns in the towns, just some pistols.

I find breaking line of sight a poor way to lose them. You can run behind walls and buildings and most the time they will keep coming.
What you need to do is find a way of preventing the zombies from running. So run up a hill or run through a building and out the other side.
They can't run on hills or in buildings.
It don't matter if you break line of sight or not.

Those long grey/white barns (far background) or the smaller white ones with 2 doors and red roofs(right foreground).

I have found that swimming for it is a good way to lose them, also running and hopping over fences, the more fences you can put between you and them, the longer it takes for them to catch up.

    Oh don't do that!
You stand a good chance of losing most of your stuff!
I lost my Coyote Backpack, M14 and all my supplies that way. I could see it at the bottom of the sea but it may as well have been on the moon :(

Eh this is probably a stupid question but how do you jump over fences? Couldn't see jump in the command list?

I bought this on steam the other day. It was a disaster story.

I though it was €18 so I went around and put €25 on my payzone mastercard. I came home and checked my balance and it was €0.19 cent :(.

Payzone charged me some quarterly fee the backstards. OK, so I brush myself off and go back around and put another 20 on the card.

Came back, checked balance and everything was fine.

So I go to steam and try to buy Arma 2 combined operations - transaction failed! Turns out its not €18 euro any more its €25.

Well Ive spent €45 so Damned if I am not getting this game! I go BACK to the shop a third time and put the min amount allowed on it - €10. At this point the woman in the shop is giving me funny looks and people are starting to whisper.... F*ck them I want my zombie game!

I go home and finally buy it, overall it cost me €65.50 Euro (including the 3 payzone card loading fees), I thought it would be €18.....

Anyway, damned if I am not playing this thing after paying 3 times more than expected for it.

I go to play and the Servers are down.

Why does Dayz hate me? :(.

Yeah but losing the last one or two is the real problem. It's ok if you a weapon I guess.

For what you're getting though. Consider BF3 normally up around $60 on Origin.

I know, I know, I am actually really enjoying it when I manage to get on a server.;)

**** me what a pain in the hole. Been in similar situations. Big fan of Paypal for this kind of thing. No extra cost, and easy as can be, provided you don't mind waiting a few days for bank transfers (or a few months if you're with Ulster bank)

Ive had woeful experiences with paypal in the past, so much so Ill go straight ahead and say **** them in their stupid asses!

BI allow you to purchase even with your debit card so props to them!

Have you been killed by them? That used to be a thing.

Or is it just the, "oh my god which bloody part am I meant to be looking at to climb this ****er, why does it take so long and why do I have to use a menu to do it in the first place"? Because that's probably not going away with the current engine.

    Yeah, ladders are ****.

Has the server gone down again? Was in the middle of looting a supermarket unchallenged, dispite accidently firing my M16. Cannot see boards server again FML !!!!

Think it's gone. I was taking cover after someone took a potshot at me and got a no message received error. This could end badly for me. :p

It used to be if you climbed up them with the Makarov out it would spawn you about a foot or two behind the ladder at the top when you got off and so you would ALWAYS fall off.
