BEng - BSc.(Hons)

I have a BEng. in Building Services Engineering went on to do a BSc. (Hons) in Fire Safety Engineering. As my final qualification is a BSc. and not BEng. can I still qualify for chartered engineer status?
The reason the BSc.(Hons) was not a BEng is because some construction studies graduates progress onto the course and they would not have done the required level of maths required for a BEng. although the BSc (Hons) course had a substantial maths component.

So you have both a BEng and a BSc?

Then i don't see why you can't become chartered. You could become chartered with your first degree on its own. Well thats until I think year when they change things around and you have to have a post grad to become chartered.

Besides as far as I am aware, with EI for example, its not just your degree that is taken into account to allow you progress, they take into account work experience and all further courses before allowing someone to sit the charter-ship exams. Technically you can have any degree and with the right amount and type of work experience you can become chartered.

Generally you'll need at least a BEng (Hons) to become a CEng, although some institutions have a backdoor route where if you don't meet their academic requirements you can do a technical report instead. Look up the membership grades and requirements of the institution you wan to join.

The BEng. was my 3 year ordinary degree and the BSc.(Hons) was the add on to get my honours degree.

Ah ok i'd assumed it was a BEng(hons).

I'm still fairly possitive I was told somewhere along the line that an assessment can be done to get over not having a BEng (Hons).
Maybe its only for people on an unaccredited BEng (hons) programme

I suppose in my case I have a BSc which is unaccredited and is not applicable for chartership, but my ME is accredited and allows me to progress to chartership

Just to clarify. If you graduate this year (exams just gone this summer) with a BEng (Hons) you can apply for charter ship. If however, you graduate after this year you will have to complete an Meng in order to become chartered. Just a heads up in case people read this and think they can apply with a BEng (Hons) after graduating next year.
