    Does anyone do it?

I'm a bit of loner in real life and don't make friends easily so I do it because I have to if I want to live my life and do things I enjoy doing e.g. travelling (which is a hobby of my mine!).

I went to Australia for 5 weeks on my own, I've been to Germany on my own, Faroe Islands on my own, Italy on my own, Denmark on my own etc.

I have headed off to States, Canada on my own good few times.
    Ended up doing big roadtrips.
Go where and when you want, stop off do things you feel like.
    You can have great time.
I'm planning to go to Spain for 12 days or so in August, not Ibiza type holiday, but rather a cultural Spanish holiday visiting Madrid/Seville/Cordoba/Granada etc. I also am considering to go to New Zealand next march for 2-3 weeks which I'm really looking forward too!!

If you are into historical stuff and in Madrid go for days to Segovia and Toledo.
Great places, loads to see and if you feel like it there used to be a nice Scottish pub in Segovia that does massive measures ;) and a lively Irish pub in Toledo.
And for Gods sake if you are off to NZ make it at least 3 weeks or better still a month.
Anyway enough of the travel advice.
I know people think its weird but in all honesty I don't give a fúck cause I only live once and want to do things I enjoy.

    Shag them.
Tell them going on a package deal with loads of people the exact same as them is fooking weird.
    Do what makes you happy.

Have, and would do it again. Better than being stuck with people who need to get ****faced every night and day. Get to see and do what you want this way.

I went to Japan for 2 weeks on my own back in May. I think I enjoy things more when I'm on my own as I can do things at my own pace and see what others may not want to.
I plan to go on a lot more holidays by myself too. I wouldnt think its "sad" or anything. Im sure the only people who would think such a thing are those with warped minds, brag about their 1000 facebook friends, and piss away 200 euro every weekend on drink because thats what cool people do.

I spent 4 weeks riding my motorcycle from Dublin to Marrakech & back...best holiday I ever had !

You're running on your own timetable, not having to answer to / please others & you get to meet some great characters along the way.

Bon voyage Thomas Flynn, buy the ticket, take the ride & enjoy !

Best holiday I've ever been on was 10 days through Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna on my own.

Takes little or no effort to meet people in hostels. Walk into common room with a six pack and it'll sort itself out from there. :)

He probably doesnt have time for all the situps to get one, best to just bring some beer.

I wont even go the cinema on my own so guess i have the oppisite problem.
Fair play to ya! go and enjoy.

It's highly likely that I'm going to start travelling on my own pretty soon. I've got my bucket list and things need to start being ticked off :)

There are certain things I'd like to do with somebody, like see the northern lights for example, but then there are other things that I'd be happy to do on my own, like city trips with lots of sight seeing.

I love meeting new people and making new friends, I'm happy out of I'm wandering around a festival on my own, I've met so many people while doing this, and it's much easier to do it if you're on your own :)

The OP has infinitely more confidence then the people who won't walk into pubs on their own and almost want someone to hold their hand before they go out anywhere

I went to Seaworld in Australia on my own. Taronga Zoo and all the rest of it. I went on one of the rides before it closed, and I was only one on it as well. Hahaha how sad do think that looked! :D

I was only there to see the animals, but thought I had to go on rides otherwise it wouldn't have been a good experiance. :P:D

OP there is nothing weird about you. You're an introvert, that's all. I'm a bit that way myself but maybe a bit more social. There's a whole sliding scale when it comes to it. I plan on doing a few different trips in the future and I'll do them alone if there isn't anyone to go with me. I'm looking for adventure, not home comforts and that means different things to different people.

Watch the following video. It's a TED talk called "The Power of Introverts". It might perk you up a bit if you haven't seen it before, not that you need perking I'm sure. It's is interesting and relevant to anyone, not just someone who would consider themselves introverted.

Hey OP were you in the Faroes for the Ireland match in 2005? I was there with my father. I loved the remoteness and isolation of the place, some of the scenery especially as your making your approach from the air is just breath taking. We're playing the Faroes in the upcoming World Cup campaign and I'm planning on making the trip again.

Going on holiday by yourself alone?

is it possible to go by yourself with someone.

Travelling alone is more entertaining for me.
I've got my own schedule and things I want to do. With other people theres compromise. Fcuk compromise -_-

Count me in! Went to Greenland in winter a couple of years ago on my own... pretty remote, but worth it for the northern lights... I'd go again in a heartbeat.

I have traveled loads on my own, both in Europe and Central America. I'll be the first to admit that it gets lonely sometimes, but TBH I prefer visiting museums and things like that by myself, so I guess it balances out. I have even done a 4-day holiday in Mallorca where I left my laptop at home, turned my phone off, and napped, wandered, and read on the beach without interruptions. When I went home, I felt SO much better having disconnected from the world for a few days. I would highly recommend it. :)

Also, +1000 on staying in hostels. One of my favorite solo trips was to Lisbon - I spent most of the day exploring on my own, but the hostel had a group dinner for 8 euro, so in the evening you would break bread with people from all over the world and maybe go out with people later that night. For me that is the best balance: solo during the day, and then meeting up with folks in the evening.

This is something I have always wanted to do, but Im unsure if there would be much to do there aside from scenic walks, and the norther lights.

I have done it a few times. It has it pros and cons.

Would always prefer to travel with someone but sometimes is not possible.

love travelling alone, best holiday I ever had was going to the States for a few weeks on a bus tour, went on my own and was on a bus with people from all over the world, made some friends I still talk to regularly

Would never have thought of travelling alone until my employer sent me on business trips to Asia, US and Europe. You have no choice but to go.It gave me confidence and I really enjoyed it and fitted in stuff I wanted to see and do.

After that I was hooked but I've almost always travelled with small groups. As well as Intrepid which has been mentioned there are loads of others like Explore and Exodus, Imtrav and several for USA travel.

Groups are usually 10 to 15 some solo, some couples or friends but I've found it fantastic. You can do your own thing or if a group want to see the same things they can team up.

I wasted too much time on too many holidays with friends debating/arguing about stuff to do and ending up seeing nothing or finishing up in a bar when we couldn't agree. Not that I'd never do that again but if there is somewhere I really want to see I will just go.

Yes I think some people think it is bit odd but many have admitted to me that they just would not have the confidence.
Life is too short to worry about what others think.

I have went on holiday a few times on my own - Riga, Amsterdam, Madrid, Prague. Just for a weekend. I had a great time in Riga and Amsterdam and brought back lots of cheap fags too. Madrid and Prague not so much.

I am going to Cairo on my own in Sep as i love the pyramids, history etc. Have no idea what thats gonna be like but its a place i feel i need to go on my own so i can just wander around and get a feel for the place. Normally i just get hammered when i head away on my own but there are no real pubs in Egypt so its gonna be different. Im just gonna take a week off from work and tell no one that im heading away alone as you know the way some people are
