The majority of people neither understand nor care about government or politics, and the consequence of universal suffrage and regular elections is that politicians are beholden to wealthy lobbyists, and populist mantra rather than sound governance.

I think we need a fundamentally new approach to government.

You certainly could argue against that by pointing out the relative numbers of men and women who are forced into armed combat and suffer all of the above as a matter of course.

In fairness, that is a good point, though I think that subjugation of women might be more widespread than male-only conscription. But that's academic really, as it's all bad, regardless of men or women. I was just trying to show some people that complaining about "feminisation of men" in the west pales in comparison to what happens to women elsewhere in the world.

you seem to constantly use examples of female discrimination in the arab world as a way of countering accusations of bias against men in ireland , as if irish men were deserving of prejudice on account of women not being able to drive or vote in saudi arabia

That would be true except that it's not.
I've acknowledged that anti-male discrimination exists and that men have every right to complain about it, and have used examples of worldwide anti-female discrimination (it doesn't just happen in Saudi Arabia) in order to show that discrimination happens to both men and women, and that it's a bit silly to suggest that men have it harder in general, without specifying that it's men in the west having it harder in a small number of situations that is being referred to.
In particular, it's silly to try to have a contest to see who's more discriminated, when logically, people should hate all discrimination. To do otherwise would be, frankly, discriminatory.

I don't intend to clarify further.

what happens in backward parts of the world has no relevance to women in ireland , you seem to be implying that women in ireland have some sort of inherent kinship with females in the likes of yemen or iran and therefore discrimination against irish men in the family courts can be rationalised by presenting examples of gross inequality against women in libya

Again, I've not implied any of that, and stated clearly time and again that I acknowledge anti-male discrimination exists and that men have every right to complain about it.
What I have an issue with is the minority of men who try to suggest that life in general is much harder for men, and have pointed out that women also face discrimination to demonstrate that this is not the case.

I'm going to put you on ignore if you keep twisting what I say and refusing to acknowledge what I post. It's getting ridiculous at this stage. I don't mind people disagreeing with me, and will argue respectfully with people who do likewise. I'm also more than willing to be proven wrong. I'm frankly surprised that it doesn't happen more often.

But I'm not going to take the time to write fairly long posts trying to state my case in the clearest and most detailed way possible, if you're just going to respond with short replies basically saying you think I'm wrong, then misrepresenting what I've said and without really offering any arguments of your own.

I'm not going to waste my time putting effort into my arguments if you won't do me the courtesy of doing likewise.

That George Best was nothing but a murderer, getting a new liver and destroying it and killing himself. That liver could have saved the next person in line...

As far as I'm concerned everything he did on the field should be forgotten after what he did and the person he affectedly murdered.

Just about everybody is discriminated against in some way or other for some reason or other. There is "equality" in that

That attitude is exactly what I'm talking about. Just because you can afford 10 kids doesnt mean you should have them. Nobody is thinking about the effect it has on the earth and the greater population.

I suppose you should go ahead and have loads of kids and let someone else worry about unequal resource distribution.

Oh and where are we gonna put the waste created by all these extra people? Just keep adding to the land fills?

Its not just about having enough resources for everyone, its about the damage we do in the process of gathering these resources.

Overpopulation is nothing to do with us

At the time of the famine the population of England was 14 million
    More then treble that now

But ours is still less, it has still not recovered

If there is overpopulation it's not for Ireland to worry about

And these workers are needed to pay for me when I get fat and retire :pac:

I feel that goal line technology and video replays should be kept out of football.

    Justin Bieber is alright.

Stairway To Heaven isn't really a great song.

Rugby is one of the stupidest sports that I've ever seen.

There is not much else for young people in Ireland to do except drink. Therefore I fully embrace the drinking culture that has been much criticized.

Even though I am an atheist, I find a considerably large nature of my fellow atheists to be unbearably smug and arrogant.

I like reading (Trust me this is an extremely unpopular opinion where I'm from).

Oasis were not "Overrated" or "derivative" as people often seem to say about them. They were really quite brilliant.

Right wing policies and views nearly always make more sense than left wing ones.

And this may be really controversial but people who have over a thousand posts on Boards are.... actually never mind.

Oh it works alright, just not very well. Harking back to Churchill; have you got a better system?

That America has absolutely no right to preach about practicing good human rights and take the moral high ground to other countries given that it's invaded more countries than anyone else and is responsible for many many violations itself.

Decent, intelligent debate and relations are actually possible in the Youtube comment section contrary to popular belief.

    Liquorice is really quite good.

    of course, me in charge.

Failing that Techo-Demarchy but the technology for that doesn't exist yet.
In Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series of novels the concept of demarchy has been used to flatten hierarchies. Here, in one of the human factions—the demarchists—everyone is theoretically equal in the realm of government and all major political related issues are voted upon by everyone via neural implant.
