Working as a Chartered Accountant in the US?

    Hi,
    Does anybody know if the ICAI qualification is instantly recognised by employers in th US?, or is there additional exams etc to do?

    It depends, basically it's not instantly transferable in the way that it would be in the UK (i.e. no exams to sit).

    If you want to practice in the USA as a CPA (their verison of the ACA) you need to sit a conversion exam, see http://www.aicpa.org/becomeacpa/cpaexam/examoverview/iqex/pages/default.aspx and http://www.nasba.org/international/iqex/

    Every state also has registration requirements that you have to meet and register with after passing that exam.

    However, that is only if you need to practice and use the CPA designation. If you were working in industry (say the finance department or internal audit, etc..), there would be no need per se to get the US qualification.

    Hope the OP doesn't mind me hijacking this, but in relation to an ICAI newly qualified accountant, how easy or hard would it be to find a company willing to sponsor you so that you could work in the US?
