Freddie Mercury - I remember when he died even though I was only 7.

Dermot Morgan - I'm a huge Fr Ted fan and was gutted when he passed away.

Heath Ledger - Ten Things I Hate About You is one of my favourite films, and I was a fan of his generally. My boyfriend of the time and I arrived at his house after a quiz so hadn't heard anything. His housemate told us HL had died. I thought he was messing because he knew I liked him, but it took him a while to convince me. Tears were shed :o

Eddie Guerrero & Owen Hart - both talented wrestlers taken before their time in tragic circumstances :(

John Hughes - love his movies

Ronnie James Dio - I only got into his music in the last few years but was a huge fan by the time he died. I had tickets for Heaven & Hell supporting Iron Maiden, and Ronnie passed away just a few months before the gig.

Finally, for some reason the death of Leslie Nielson really affected me. Was in foul form for days after he died.

Muammar Gadaffi. Not because I was upset by his death but because it made me realise the moral bankruptcy of the west.

Adam MCA Yauch of the Beastie Boys. I was flying to New York the day he passed, listening to them on the plane, hoping MCA would recover from his cancer so I could see them live someday or even meet them. I heard the news on arrival. I'm still upset by it, working on a few tributes and donations for him. He was just such a good guy. :(

Leslie Nielsen, he was old but it was out of the blue when he died. I grew up loving his movies. Still can't understand to this day how the GF hates him so much.

As well as Attenborough going it'll also be a sad day when Clint Eastwood packs it in. Moreso Attenborough because he's been the primary driver to my interest in the natural world since I was a kid.

Steve Irwin :( Used to watch all his shows, and tbh he brought out the animal lover in me. I loved watching him get so close to the animals and when I was young when I was asked what I wanted to be I would say like Steve Irwin xD He was a true inspiration and made watching animals fun and interesting. I think it was so upsetting 'cause I was young and it was unexpected. I don't think anyone thought he would be killed by an animal, he seemed so natural and in tune with them.

What? Thats the number 1 thing everybody expected him to be killed from. He was not in tune with animals at all. He was near an animal abuser. Anybody who loves animals truly isnt going to bust out in the wild, and wrestle them/beat the shíte out of the poor thing. It came as no surprise to me when it happened.
If he truly loved animals he would just have observed them and perhaps tried to let them get closer to him rather than the other way around.

I think the same thing for zoo's and all those other shows/places where they keep animals caged up. I dont care if the tiger seems to be content where it is, its not natural and it shouldnt be where they are.

Nope, can't think of one person.
I don't even know who half the people mentioned in this thread are (were), never mind care they're dead!

Baby P - that case really got to me.
    Many others like that.

But when I hear of a famous person dying, I think 'Oh that's sad' and continue on with my day.

I've been shocked by the deaths of famous people ie,John Lennon ,Michael Jackson ...both of whom I was a big fan of and Lady Diana but but only time I can recall being really upset was at 9/11 when all those people died so quick and so sudden .

Hunter S. Thompson. I was sitting in a dentist's waiting room when I heard the news on the radio. I was gutted by that one.

I was extremely saddened by Natasha Richardson's death. Such a tragedy. The fact that it could have been avoided if she'd sought medical advice just seemed so unfair.

It was more of a "that's really sh1t" reaction rather than a hugely emotional one though. Felt terrible for her kids.

Hunter S. Thompson felt sad I am a big fan of his books

and kurt Cobain I thought he could possibly have become neil young type of song writer (obviously not as good a guitar player) after nirvana.
